    Exhaust washer mod

I've seen a lot of videos on YouTube with people doin a washer mod on all kinds of cars even new wrx's. has anyone on here seen this too or even tried it? I know it does absolutely nothing for performance but from what I have seen in videos it sounds good when done to a stock exhaust. I was thinking about trying for kicks but wanted to make sure there are no potentially damaging effects.

I'd consider carbon monoxide poisoning a damaging effect...

Let's give my car an intentional exhaust leak...yeah, no thanks.

Buy an aftermarket exhaust if you want more sound.

not gonna lie i tried this just for s*&$@ before i bought my axle back. i was bored on a sat so tried it. also it was to convince the other half how much cooler the car was with the boxer rumble lol. yea it does give the car the rumble and i only used 2 washers per bolt so it wasnt such a drastic leak. problem is it sound exactly like what it is. an exhaust leak. its not a clean sound and yes it could be a pontenial health hazard...

The OP in the thread i posted said he started to see signs of CMP while DRIVING AROUND. Not in a closed garage not parked standing still, while DRIVING. If you must try it, please keep your windows down. CO is odorless, tasteless, and not something to mess with.

If you still aren't convinced, watch this video.

Small exhaust leak while driving around a track. Driver get confused, motor functions slow, and eventually passes out.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, I was just curious as to the actual results of trying it. I am buying a full Megan Racing exhaust but I was curious about this mod I kept hearing about.

Couldn't this be done with just not installing or removing the donut gasket at the DP/CBE connection? That'd cause a leak, too. I'm not suggesting you do it, at all, it's stupid and dangerous. It's just a random thought I had - and it's totally free!

Or you could just drill holes all over the exhaust. That'd work too.

    But seriously, don't do this.

I wouldn't classify that as a "mod." More like "intentional damage."

Seriously? This thread should just be deleted. Let's intentionally give a car an exhaust leak. Even better...do it much further upstream from tailpipe.

Actually...scratch that. The best washer mod you can do is to put washers in at the UP Junction. Even add a couple to the downpipe. You'll get some killer Suby rumble there.

    Dude... GREAT IDEAS!

I bet you could get an uppipe plumbed for an ewg, and just not put anything there - you know, so it's a big hole. And do the same with any DP and just not install your rear O2 sensor.

That'd open up your rumble for sure.

Just to play devils advocate on the health concerns... I have an EWG. If a leak that far back with significantly colder air can cause symptoms, I should be dead by now I'd think. You can definitely smell the EWG after it opens up, as well.

I dunno. Not saying it is good for you, but I doubt that a leak at your muffler (post-cat normally) is going to cause any serious carbon monoxide issues.
