    Air oil separator

    Hi all!

I have done some searching on here and although I found a little bit of info (mostly bickering), I still wanted to pose the question. What are the general thoughts on air oil separators? I was eyeing the grimmspeed one, and before I drop the money I figured I would see if anyone else is running these and if you think it is a worthwhile investment. I am currently only stage 1, but this friday night I am getting my turbo back exhaust installed, at which time I will be flashing to stage 2. So for all intensive purposes, you can consider me stage 2

Thanks ahead of time for any insight!

The Crawford AOS is widely regarded as being better design than the GrimmSpeed one.. that said, I wouldn't run one on my car. I prefer to keep the blow-by junk out of my engine, rather than circulating it back into the oil pan.

I actually run a Peterson catch can that I have modified to pull vacuum from my intake. The problem with most catch cans is that they are VTA and to properly evacuate gases from the crank case and heads you should be pulling vacuum from them.

Ok, so if a catch can is the way to go then I will take that route. One of my friends actually recommended the same thing. Is there any good brand out there that would be a decent quality that I could add on without any major modifications (which as the one that you did to your peterson)? I know that some people would say a catch can is a catch can is a catch can, but I have heard the same thing about downpipes, and I still chose to buy a nicer quality one!

    Thanks!

The Peterson catch can is a good one.. all you really have to do is remove the breather on the top and attach a line to your intake, but it should be a rather large line, preferably clear so you can see if you're over flowing.

The only issue with doing it this way is that you need to check and empty the can on a regular basis, and you'll need to top your oil off more regularly.
