This is a discussion on Single or dual within the Engine Modifications forums, part of the Tech & Modifying & General Repairs category; So I've been hearing that for our cars, single exit exhaust is better than dual tip..... Is this true? False? ...

    Single or dual

    So I've been hearing that for our cars, single exit exhaust is better than dual tip..... Is this true? False? Or "it depends"
    2013 WRX sedan - MODS = pretty much every bolt on besides a bigger turbo.

    Better in the sense of what? Sound?

    The 02-10 WRX's exhaust goes from the downpipe -> midpipe -> muffler -> tips.
    (Note the 08-10 sedans have a Y pipe that goes to two separate mufflers.)

    The 11+ WRX's exhaust goes from the pownpipe -> midpipe -> muffler -> quad tips.
    (Note, again, the sedan of these MYs have the Y pipe with two mufflers.)

    It's not until after the muffler (except the sedans) that the set up changes. So I don't see where anyone would get the idea that one set-up is worse than the other.

    I'm assuming that you are talking about on the 11+, cause you have a '13? If you're thinking about going from quad tips to single tips you should get under your car and take a look at how the exhaust is actually set up. The quad tips are really just for looks. There's two exits from the muffler instead of one. That's the only difference.

    Yes I was referring to my 2013 wrx. I have the SPT and I was thinking about switching to another exhaust since my invidia downpipe tubing is larger than the SPT CBE
    2013 WRX sedan - MODS = pretty much every bolt on besides a bigger turbo.

    You're talking about the muffler section essentially then. I don't know that this would make a difference; it would be worthwhile seeing if you can dig up any concrete info (dyno plots, lots of them, lots and lots) before money changes hands in my view.

    No not the mufflers. The whole cat back. The downpipe is bigger in diameter than the pipes the catback. I can see it where they connect
