I keep seeing some back and forth on whether you should/should not do a SRI/CAI. I've seen a picture of the older stock intake box, but haven't found anything on the newer ones. Also, anything you can advise about the engine differences would be appreciated. I'm trying to learn more to make better decisions on my future mod plans.

the intake setup on the 08+ is totally different than 02-07. the STi and 06+ has been ok with an intake. the 08+ is actually a good mod to make.

Either way it will need a tune to matter.

If I were going to do any intake it would be Cobb SF w/ air box and an AEM filter. That is just my opinion though.

She's already tuned and ready for a retune when ever I change parts. Just wondering what the difference between the stock intake boxes, if any, are so I can make a better educated decision.

Some guys stick with OE up past 300+ hp but, most guys that are tuned seem to have aftermarket intakes. In my readings, the majority say OE is fine up to decent power levels but, there are gains to be seen with an aftermarket intake. Talk to your tuner to see what they've had good luck tuning with.

I personally have the K&N and dig it. If I go FMIC I will need to change because the FMIC piping will route right into my K&N.

Tons of info out there on this subject. Just search google and most of the big threads on the main forums will pop. Little bit-o search effort will pay dividends.

Do you have the Typhoon or just the drop in panel? I'm planning on staying TMIC just grading it.

You added the smiley, which is typically not associated with friendly sarcasm.

Intakes on newer cars tend to be more beneficial than previous years. As a general rule, at StageII modification levels with a VFXX or larger turbo, an intake is a worthwhile investment if you're willing to make sure you can properly calibrate the ECU for it.

Typhooooooon and I'm at "stage 2". I put the intake and full turbo back exhaust on in one night and immediately flashed a Torqued Performance tune on it. I then drove to meet Eric for an in person tune and we added an EBCS.....I f'n love my car since that day!
