    Popping coming from exhaust. Downshifting

    Hi
    I've noticed sometimes (not always) I get a popping sound from the exhaust when Im downshifting from 2 to 3 usually coming off the freeway. Just wondering if I should worry about this? Or does anyone know what this would be?
    Mods: turbo back exhaust, cat less up pipe and I have had it pro tuned.
    I never noticed this until I did the last mod for the up pipe and pro tune but I never noticed this immediately. Like 3 - 4 months later

    Thoughts?

    How do you downshift from 2nd to 3rd?

    Depending on what type of popping, more then likely normal. A lot of aftermarket exhaust sytems do this...don;t know why, would love to if someone wants to fill that part in

    But worse case scenario it's misfiring. But you would throw a CEL if it's misfiring

    Sounds like it would be. Especially if there's no CEL codes.

    You are probably running rich. Mine does the same thing but it depends on the mods you have and the tune.

    Just out of curiosity, how does running rich cause it to pop?
    I can see, kind of, without a tune due to the extra air flow causing the ECU to need more fuel, and eventually it gets a memory for this

    Excess fuel will carry along in the exhaust. Exhaust travels through the exhaust piping and fuel of course is flamable, so with a hot exhaust and fuel touching the piping, it will burn or pop.

    No CELs. No misfire Yes cat less up and down pipes.
    The tuner did state and I have the graph that he tuned it more rich bc he said it was running lean. I was figuring it was un spent fuel making it out into the exhaust. Typically happens in high revs from 3 to 2. Saying that I think it's odd that maybe I should change my spark plugs since they are about a year old. I figure that should improve ignition?
    But overall based on the comments this doesn't sound like an issue

    It really shouldn't be an issue. Wouldn't see why....lower gas mileage at the worst maybe?

    Took a look at your profile to see if you listed your mods. Definetly because of what you are running i have pretty much the same mods on my Rex also stage 2.
