    quiet my exhaust

Today was the last straw.. I was sitting idling in a parking lot eating my junk food lunch, when a woman came out of the building across the way and asked me to shut my engine off. According to her my car was "very loud" idling in the parking lot.

I'm running an OEM 04-05 STi muffler, so suggestions like Borla Hush won't really be helpful. I'm fairly certain the hush will be quite a bit louder than what it is right now. I am also highly opposed to anything that will hinder exhaust flow/performance. My idea is to measure the longest straight section of pipe in my catback and install the longest resonator I can fit.

    Any other ideas?

Get an equal length exhaust manifold if you don't have one already. I was amazed at how much it quieted my car down. Made the idle smooth as well. Still sounds pretty darn good as well - different though.

Tell her if she doesn't want to hear it, then to stop listening and STFU. It's your car, do what you'd like with it. I'd personally make it louder

I already have Perrin ELH. That did quiet it down a bit, especially at idle.. but somehow it's still pretty darn loud considering I'm running a stock axleback.

Of course when she asked me to shut it off I politely apologized and turned the car off.... but you know when I got done eating and was ready to leave I backed up (setting off car alarm behind me) and drifted exiting the parking lot onto the road way EWG blastin! (I'm pretty sure it shot a righteous flame 1st to 2nd shift too.. loud afterfire) I mean, I had to accelerate to merge with oncoming traffic..

In all seriousness though, I already have a 3" cutout in my race pipe, so if I want to be loud, it can be LOUD. But when I'm rolling stealth mode (95% of the time) I would like it to be as mild sounding as possible, which is not currently the case.

Perhaps if you could find an old school 02-04 bugeye axelback with the twin tip? They were quieter.
