This is a discussion on egt gauge within the Engine Modifications forums, part of the Tech & Modifying & General Repairs category; So idk if this was a common question but i did look for it... but why is it that subaru ...

    egt gauge

    So idk if this was a common question but i did look for it...

    but why is it that subaru engines everyone needs to run egt gauges... but on your hondas and my friends supra..etc..
    they dont have to worry

    what so different?

    i dont know whats been done to my car, already had it.
    has a downpipe and cold air.. thats all thats visible.

    not sure if its even tuned for it.. sometimes it smells rich. also no cats.

    ive seen 1600 at wot 4th gear sometimes 3rd gear pull so i let off

    first off lets start with year and modifications that you do know. Also why are you running wot in 4th gear without knowledge of a tune

    car is made to have fun with...

    2004 wrx. 2.0l

    im assuming its tuned but idk. trying to get ahold of accessport or another way to tell?

    Do you have any access to the previous owner? I know these cars are made to have fun with, but if I didn't know if mine was tuned for the bolt-ons that are on it, I definitely would be cautious about driving it. A car with a blown engine is not made to have fun with.

    Nothing is different. Lots of diesels and aircraft run EGT gauges. It is what it is. It's just another gauge.

    If you're interested in knowing EGTs for tuning timing, you need a gauge.

    Hondas, Toyotas, and any other modified turbo car need to run an EGT gauge just as much as a Subaru. Without a gauge how would you know what your exhaust temperature was?
