Switching to the external gate is going to take some work. And would also require a different uppipe and the internal gate holder (unless you weld it shut). I have a tial 44mm and i don't have any complaints and I was told at one time that you can never have to big of a wastegate.

No, the internal wastegate is part of the turbo.

Why do you need an upgraded wastegate? If you're having difficulty hitting target boost, try adjusting the preload.

The spring pressure on my VF22 was about 5psi.. although we really didn't have any trouble with the boost until it got up to about 23psi. Anything higher and I probably would have needed to upgrade the actuator.. so I just got a 20g and a 44mm EWG.

Well there's something else wrong then, because a 5psi wastegate spring is the lowest I've ever heard of, and I was still able to hit 23psi max without much trouble.

Hmm.. strange. It really sounds like you're just running wastegate pressure. My best guess is that either there is a leak, or something isn't hooked up right.
