Why is this a no no?

I would like to put a AEM Cold Air Intake on my 2010 WRX just for the improved engine sound and the ability to hear the recirculating BOV..I dont care about the performance gains and dont want to re-tune the car...

why is a cold air intake with no re-tune so bad for a car?

    THANKS!

Your MAF readings can be off causing you to run either lean or rich aka not good for your motor. A tune can fix this. Also a CAI can suck up water. As for that particular intake on a 2010, I have no knowledge of the specifics

your going to get mixed reviews. Aem is supposed to be very very similar to characteristics of the stock intake and maf sensing. Some people will say tune, while i know others that have the intake and run without a tune. I personally just ordered the AEM. im putting it on and driving it until i can spit the money for a AP

Have you considered Cobb's SFI? Same sound, less risk.

cobb has a tune for both the cobb intake and aem intake... so the risk is the exact same.. both recommend a tune, but they arent immediate need. no damage will be done

I was referring to the risk of hydrolock associated with the location of the AEM.

^ word... its not super low though. the filter sits right under where the heatshield is.. youd have to be in some pretty deep water haha.

Yes, it would have to be some pretty deep water. No offense, though some may be taken, but I'm just assuming the worse possible driving and abuse from anyone who will degrade the performance of their car for "the sound."

the world isn't going to end.. but if you want longevity you'll want to tune if you change the intake.

My question is why do you not want to tune your car?

Not to insult Jim or anything, but if you drive in water deep enough to hydrolock the motor because of the AEM intake, you are a moron...
