    Cool Questions on new mods

I currently have a stock 09 wrx with a drop in filter. I was thinking about getting a turbo back exhaust and engine tuning.

The exhaust is the Invidia Q300 cat back and then either the Invidia downpipe or the mac autosport downpipe. I'm located close to parker, so that's why I was thinking about mac to install this stuff and then get an open source tune there.

I was wondering how well you think open source tuning works? Also how is the mac autosport downpipe considering that I haven't heard to much about it? What is the main difference between a catted and non-catted invidia downpipes? Plus for some reason mac autosport was telling me that they wouldn't install a non-catted downpipe. Do you know of another place that would install a non catted downpipe with an open source tune? Would any of these downpipes pass emissions?

Open source tuning works as well, if not better than any other tuning option available.

Never heard of Mac Autosport. I'm not sure why they wouldn't install a non-catted down pipe, because changing any part of emissions is illegal, whether it has a catalytic converter in it or not.

I see you live in CO. From what I have heard, no aftermarket exhaust will pass emissions there, catted or not. Although you may be able to find someone who will let you slide, so to speak.

See I was wondering that myself. I think he was trying to give me a sale's pitch so that I would only buy his catted downpipe. If that's the case then I lost all respect for mac autosport. I use to think they were a great tuner. He also told me that Invidia doesn't make a catted downpipe. Which they do. So what does that tell you? I know that they have done quite a bit subaru tuning here in Colorado. Anyone else heard of them not installing un-catted downpipes? For some reason I thought that they've already done it on other subarus. Any other tuners for open source that is close to Denver?

We have some pretty active members from the CO area.. you might take a look in your regional forum, or in the high altitude subsection of this forum.

I personally wouldn't use MAC Autosport.

    The two I'd use are:
Adam at Revolutions Performance in C Springs
And Harvey "The Boost Creep" in Longmont.

Harvey will do open source or AP tuning. Adam does AP tuning.

I'm unsure as to why they won't install an uncatted downpipe. Installing a downpipe on a street registered car is against EPA regulations no matter if you replace it with a catted or catless downpipe.

Recently their Subaru tech left the business... so I'm not sure if they have a new one yet or not.
    I personally would go elsewhere.

+1 to all of the previous advice. This guy sounds like either he doesn't know what he's talking about or he's on a sales pitch.
