Ok so my question is, does the STI exhausts work on the 2008 5 door hatchbacks? I have been looking at some exhausts and want to have a dual exhaust similar to the 2008-11 STI, and the body is the same but mostly have only seen one exit exhausts for the hatch wrx

Quick question on stock heat shields.

How important is it to re-install the heat shields on the manifolds?

I'm installing a GrimmSpeed ceramic coated catless up pipe so I have all the front exhaust components off. I'm guessing it's important if I care about the life of the components in the engine bay but just wanted some feedback from anyone with experience one way or the other.

    Thanks!

Keeping the underhood temps down makes the TMIC more efficient at doing it's job. Not to mention keeping the manifolds heat in also keeps gas velocity at it's highest allowing for quicker spool/response from the turbo.

Thanks Donkey. After thinking about it more last night underneath the car I decided to put them back on. Subaru didn't put them there for show. I understand the gases will flow better with them on and I will experience less heat soak. Both key factors in prolonging the life span of my engine components.

Got it all back together last night and took it for a spin after midnight and can definitely tell a difference. Lower RPM spool and quicker spool time. I call on GrimmSpeed's 2-3 hr install time though - It took me a combined 8+ hours . I'm no master technician but have been working on my own cars for over 10 years now. Either way, I'm very happy with GrimmSpeed's unit and fitment.

Nice thread and info. I just got a 2011 WRX sedan with the factory installed SPT exhaust. Its too loud in the cabin. I have put Dynomat in the trunk under the tire and on the remain trunk floor, but it did very very little. Any suggestions? Thanks

if they only do a check engine light test, and nothing else... then more than likely yes. If they do a visual inspection and sniffer test, you're gambling.
