    oem turbo inlet install help

so i was looking around the car today and noticed that my stock inlet was nearly completly torn off the turbo , ( im guessing clamp was way to tight plus ive removed the turbo several times ). so went and got a new one from subaru. looked around for an install but not getting much luck . all i find is aftermarket install guides, im guessing its gotta be fairley the same , im just not sure if im gonna need to remove the intake manifold to replace this thing. ive got the old one almost out , just gotta get the intercooler off and that powersteering line and i think i should be ok but its really tight in there , any help or suggestion would be great, i kno i can cut the old one out , but how can i get the new one in ?????

Lots of wiggling and pushing... I would have said to get an aftermarket one... maybe an APS hard one (IM needs to come off). Stockers are prone to taking a crap. Or a silicone one.... Good luck....

/\+1 The stock inlet is prone to breaking and is restrictive. You generally have to unbolt the intake manifold. Factory service manual has the procedure.

Take it back to the dealer and get a quality silicone (Perrin or Samco) inlet instead. You can install those without removing the intake manifold (PITA supposedly). You cannot with the OEM unit hence why the instructions are not available online. The OEM one is junk.

APS should not require removal either but is supposed to be trickier.

well got the inlet off with out taking the IM off, had to break off the big nipple on the side for bov , since i couldnt get the damn hose off, i hope i can get it back on without messing that nipple up . i think it wouldve cleared only thiing was the hose was in the way, i paid 122.00 for the inlet and that was having them overnight it , so im guesing thats pretty good since the aps one and perrin and like 200 bucks, and would require a retune , ive alrdy been tuned so im not trying to spend another 500 bucks just yet till i ugrade the injectors .

No, you do not need a retune to run those. You would still be better off even with a Gimick over stock which should be a similar price.

so incase was wondering about the inlet, it can be done without taking the IM off , an oem one that is , remove and install. all u need to do is cut half of the big nipple off the one were the bov recirculates, and since most people are running bov that blow off to the air its not needed and can be plugged. i plugged it with a plug i got at advanced auto parts. worked great now i dont got that long hose running along the engine and the plug fit perfect. just thought id share incase anyone was in my spot needing a new inlet, it can be done !

    Good deal.

Vent to Atmosphere isn't ideal but not the end of the world either. Just make sure that plug is in there perfectly as a little leak there will make you run lean.
