dude i would suggest startin out with going stage 2 or somethin simple at first, before dumpin a s*** load of money into your car. then move on up to getting the full potential out of your money. which u gotta tell me how that works out for yah....cause i have an 06 too ![]() ![]() ![]()

i don't believe it has to necessarily be cobb, but up & down pipe, catback exhaust, with a tune or engine management system. i have been readin around the threads and it looks like 06's can put down some pretty good numbers with just going stage 2.

However, if you're going to be getting a custom tune, an aftermarket UP will net you some gains. If you decide to go this route, look into the Grimmspeed UP (you can get it ceramic coated for $200, and you'll just need to hit up your Subaru dealership for OEM UP/EM and UP/turbo gaskets). If it were me, I'd do the following: TBE of your choice - $600 (buy used) Grimmspeed UP (ceramic coated) - $200 Custom open-source StageII tune - $400 OEM gaskets (DP/turbo, DP/CBE, UP/EM, UP/turbo) - $35 Total: ~$1200 This would give you a good bump in power, and you could sell your OEM catless UP for $50-75 to recoup some of the money you've spent.

I would go for stage 2 for now. Good advice above ^^^, but basically what you are looking to do is increase the flow of your exhaust, while using a new software tune to get your car's computer to raise the boost of the stock turbo (and a whole lot of other stuff to optimize your cars parameters).
On a 06 WRX you would be near stock 06 STI levels and maybe better in terms of torque. Most people here refer to horsepower levels as they are at the wheels of the car, rather than the base horsepower of the engine at the crank. For example, when I went to stage 2, I dyno'd at the wheels 224hp and 285 foot lbs of torque. With powertrain losses, maybe we're talking 260ish hp and 310ish torque at the engine crank. So stage 2 can be comparable to a stock STI in terms of power. Stage 2 components are generally a TBE (Turbo Back Exhaust) with or without a catalytic converter in the DP (Downpipe). The DP is the first part of your TBE that connects to the turbo. 06-07 WRX's do not have a cat in the UP (Uppipe), so it's not necessary for just stage 2 (but it's good for more power if you upgrade the engine further). A retune of your cars ECU is next. You need to change the software of your car to take advantage of your new exhaust. The best is to have a professional put it on a dyno and do a custom tune. The cheapest is to use premade tunes you can download from the internet and transfer to your car via a laptop and cable. A more expensive way is to get a Cobb Accessport. This is a small handheld device that has preloaded tunes on it that try to match various "stages" or hardware packages that most people go with. You hook it up to your cars OBDII port and load it yourself. It also has a lot of other features. You go stage 2, then work on upgrading your suspension, and I think you'll be very happy for a while. P.S. I vote no for the BOV as well...
