^^^^Why are you putting that in here? He's asking about the Uppipe wrt to tuning. Installing a DP is another issue.

Nope. Shouldn't really need to tune with the uppipe.

Because it WILL need a tune, like most every other mod you put on your car needs. When the up pipe it put on he will now be spooling about 500rpms sooner. Pressures will change with the cat no longer being between the exhaust manifold, and turbo. Also the check engine light will appear. If you get or have a downpipe, its better for your engine to flash to stage 2, you will clear the CELs, gain power, and the engine will be tuned and run smooth.

If he posts back with an EGT CEL all this could simply be pointed out to him again. If he were to install a downpipe now is the logical time to do so to save on labour and effort, but it's not necessary.

    2.2 ohms resistor mod.

I wouldnt think you'd see much gains from tuning after just a UP on a other wise stock car.

With that being said if you plan on doing a TBE just do it all at once and be done with it.

    Nuh uh.

For starters, I run a catless UP on a stock DP, with no complaints, no CELs (did the 2.2k ohm resistor mod). There are also folks who've done the UP mods w/o the resistor mod, and seemed to have gotten away with it (by putting the EGT back in the uppipe).

My car was protuned before UP install....and there was little change after in boost pressures (as expected).

The only gain is reduction in spool time, and probably a little peak hp somewhere (don't quote me on the last figure).

Yep. Your DP would prob. have to come off anyway to do the install. I did for my install. So if you've you wanna put in an aftermarket DP, that's a good a time as any to do so.

Search for resistor mod, there's many threads.

make sure you have new gaskets and everything ya need for install than you should be good to go. Reset ECU is not a bad idea either as stated above. good luck!

Just did a Cobb Uppipe a month ago (lots of scraped knuckles, but fun)

FYI its a 2.2 kOhm Resistor (thats 2,200 Ohms, its listed a few different ways below.) I did this 'mod' and would definitely recommend it as its a $0.05 deal.

EM shouldn't need to be changed (per Matt at Cobb) because the onboard em will eventually learn to deal with the faster spool.

Having said this, big bump for the DOWNPIPE... this is the best time for the install since you have to take off the stock DP anyway. Plus a DP will alter performance way more than the UP anyway.

I've been looking at putting a catless uppipe on and same as you my car is already protuned. I'm currently using a helix down pipe with high flow cat and am thinking that the new uppipe will require a retune after its installed. Do you think I could get away with out retuning?

If your car has a catted uppipe, and you replace it with a catless unit, you could put yourself into untuned load sites. It's best to have it looked at and touched up. An uppipe shouldn't be too difficult to adjust for.
