    THUMP then CEL

i was messing with my boost controller (AVC-R) not knowing what im doing really and i managed to get it almost mess up my car, yikes

i was accelerating hard trying to get it to self-learn or self-adjust my settings and when all the sudden the car jerked really hard and then the check-engine light came on. the car never stalled or anything and i haven't been able to get the CEL code since all the Autozones in CA don't do that anymore as of last month

im thinking one of the sparks just misfired... does that sound right or might it be something else as a result of wierd avc-r settings? should i do anything as a precaution (postcaution ) now to keep anything from happening further or is it no big deal?

i dont wanna go to the dealer with a CEL and modified exhaust and boost controller, that for sure would not be good. all i know is im too scared to go over stock boost right now

You just hit the boost-induced fuel cut. No harm done... just try not to do it on a frequent basis (i.e turn your boost down).

It's basically a fail-safe mechanism to prevent you from hurting yourself (read: your motor). The Subaru engineers were smart enough to realize there would be lots of guys playing around with boost controllers without applying appropriate supporting modifications.

Get the code pulled just to be sure. It should indicate a wastegate malfunction.

not to be an a$$ but if you hear a thump then get a CEL and you have a mbc do a search or somthing because chances are you hit a boost induced fuel cut, and theres nothing to worry about..

    ok, thanks

i couldnt get the code pulled when it happened, and when i went to use the car tonight the CEL was gone

i'll just be more careful now, i just assumed since it's an expensive ebc that it wouldn't have any problems with whatever settings as long as i dont go over 1.1kg/cm^2 (about 15.6psi) and set the rest to auto-learn, but i did give it high fuel values to start-off from so i don't under fuel ... so that's probably it

    thanks again

You can still get the code pulled regardless of the fact that the light went out. It is kept in a MIL history list.

what if i disconnect the car battery... i think i should probably clear it just for the sake of keeping the dealer from knowing about it

That will clear it. You'll need to leave the battery disconnected for a little while I think - say 15 minutes or so.

Or just go to an autozone, get the code pulled, and then get them to clear it.
