Trying to make up my mind on what turbo to get

So stage 2 just isn't doing it for me anymore.. need more I live about 200 miles from Godspeed, so I'm thinking that a custom tune is in order come this spring/summer.

I have narrowed my decision down to either a Dead Bolt Super 16g or 18g, with all the supporting mods. My dilemma is that my WRX is my daily driver and I need to make sure reliability is top priority. Obviously the 18g will make more hp, but I baby my car and rarely ever launch it. If you take that into account, would you recommend one turbo over the other?

If you're careful and like you said, you don't launch it, you shouldn't have any problems with the tranny. The 18G should suit you fine

You get an 18g and you'll love it.

I would just go with whatever is within your budget and will get you the most power. you will want more power later anyways. the nature of the bug. you say you drive it nice so it's highly doubtful you will break anything in gear if you don't launch it hard and/or shift hard.

Super 16G since it is your daily driver. Lower spool time, tho its not far from 18G.

both the 16G & 18G are greater in every way over any VF series turbo.....

    you want to know why.....

    1) the MHI(Mitsubishi) turbos can be rebuilt, the IHI VF series turbos cannot...

    2) the MHI turbos are easily upgradeable...a 16G can be made into an 18G, an 18G in a 20G....

    3) the 16G spools quicker than a VF30/34/39/etc....with much more topend than any of the VF series...

    Yup, I agree!

I would go with Super 16G, since its got a better spool time and top end performance is good as well. It is your daily driver right? An 18G is good, but for a daily driver, I think it's an over kill.
I might be back in the market for the new STI sedan!

why do you consider an 18G overkill?

    lag?

my 20G hits full boost (21psi) by 3500rpm, full torque by 3700rpm....thats quicker than most non-custom tuned VF series turbos....most VF series torque doesn't peak till mid-5k rpm...
