    New Head Unit

Thinking about upgrading my stock head unit for iPod use. This is what I am considering Alpine CDA-9827

I can get the deck with installation for $300 and the sales guy said the extra iPod control interface (Alpine KCA-420i) would be $120 installed. So the total would be $420 plus tax.

So is that a good deal and is it a good head unit? It looks like the head unit has outputs so if I wanted to add stuff on later I can. Any help and guidance would be appriciate I'm stereo and electronic newb!

3rd store said they were on national backorder and that you can't get them... But he said about $400 to install if he had them...

Installing the deck isn't that hard. You should give it a try and save yourself some money. The CDA-9827 is a really great deck. I had it on my car before I upgraded to the CDA-9835. How much are they quoting you for just the deck?

I am pretty sure there are folks who are on this board in your area that can do the install for ya....its a matter of finding them and bribing them with beer to help/do the install for ya.

I really like the Eclipse AVN2454. It has NAV/DVD/CD, it also can have (2) 8 disc cd changers connected plus I have an Xbox under the driver's seat as well. There is an XM commander unit that was put in the space where the ash tray was to maintain a stock look. It is a touch screen with a talking NAV that will use only the drivers door speaker so that everyone else can still listen to music. The NAV unit retails for as much as 1900.00 at Eclipse dealers and on ebay you can get them new for 1,650.00. I also have the BEC103 camea that mounts in the rear of the car to act as a rear-view camera. It is not installed yet.

There is also an Eclipse 12" Titanium sub with an Eclipse 2000 watt single channel amp and a zapco amp for the rest of the speakers inside the car. Those are Infinity perfects components and eclipse speakers in rear doors.

    um.. yeah...

I'm not looking ot have a command post in my car... hehe I want to be able to connect my iPod to my head unit. And $1600+ is a lil outta my price range... I'm having problems justifying replacing a perfectly fine head unit as it is...

Try to see if you can find your CDA-9827 on ebay or online...when i got bought my 9827 when it first came out it costed a total of $200 (ebay). The same can go for teh KCA-420i...that should cost you around 90-100 bucks shipped (ebay).

Here is what i found after searching ebay:

Wiring harness you can get any stereo shop. The dash kit i wouldnt recommond the one from the shops (it dont look as good)...all the dash kit is that pocket underneath the radio. Once you see the wiring harness and the wiring cable from the radio you can tell how simply the install is. for the wires just match up the color...red to red, black to black, green/white to green/white....you get the picture.

see the pocket below the radio...that is the Legacy pocket...which fits the wrx just fine.

This is the Forester pocket...which fits the wrx just fine.

For almost that price you can get a Kenwood Excelon KDC-x979 for 480$ with the Subaru to Universal and Universal to kenwood wiring harness and install it yourself, real simple
