search first and if you don't come up with bunch of threads on this then i'll go ahead and answer. Continue.

I have an Sti and used the ip kit to install 6 1/2 components in the front with no modifications. Rear used any 5 1/4 except the ones listed on their site as "won't fit".
According to crutchfield its 5 1/4 in the front and 4 in the rear. What i highly suggest is to look and search in the vendors forum and maybe ask ej20 on fitment issues as he seems to know what fits and what doesn't.

    good luck

    Thanks for the compliment.

6 1/2 in the front, 4" in the rear. Can fit 5 1/4 all around, but there's no logical point in doing so.

Here's the thread on some speakers.

    Speaker thread

There are tons of speakers out there, but only a handful that fit without modification. Most importantly, set up a budget, spend most of it on the front stage of your car, in particular on the headunit (#1 on your priority list), front stage Amp (#2) then front stage components, no Co-axials please (#3), sub and according amp (#4) and then lastly your rear speakers as they are only designed for fill anyway, co-ax is fine there.

Call me if you've got questions.

I'll be in any time after 11 am, pacific time.,,,that somehow seems redundant.
Those fools, EVO vs. STi??? That's like comparing ....wait a minute...there's no comparison. The Suby's still working!!! The evo...well... I hope he got the extended warranty.

    ^^^^^^ what he said.

Anyways I'm not planning on doing it all in that order. I put in a cd player and am getting a sub and amp soon. I'm hoping that the stock components up front will sound better without any bass going to them because I am on a budget and cannot go spending a whole bunch of my car right now.

check out iaperformance.com or something. They make spacers and have a whole list of companies speakers that fit with their spacers.

Yes you do want speakers with separate tweeters. These are what is called component speakers. They sound much much better than coaxial speakers which have the tweeter in the middle of the cone (so basically just one woofer to bolt in the door).

I've got Dynaudio 6 1/2's that will mount with a simple spacer, but I doubt you're willing to shell out $600 for them. Other than that, just accept the fact that the door has to be worked on unless you get 5 1/4's. Tweeters should not be a problem as there is plenty of room behind the panel.

The rear direct replacement is a 4".

The door rattling is due, most likely, to improper or poor installation, possible broken retainer clips, or the door panel or speaker not sitting properly.
