A good amp gives you far better sound quality, even at moderate volume. Of course as SQ gets better you will be pleased hearing the system at higher volume but with lower distortion.

I'm just as happy driving without music. Don't get me wrong. I've had systems before. I've just grown out of them. They simply aren't worth the time, effort, money, or added weight. If I wanted a high quality sound system, I would have purchased a different car.

I agree, after going through alternators/batteries etc and rattling my other cars trunk to pieces I gave up on the booming bass. Speaking of systems...I just found my stock Subaru speakers, think I can get $20 for them?

playing CD's... most stuff will play fine until 34 (with bass at +2)

On tapes, I can set the bass at +5 no problem..

Certain CD's I have to lower the bass at 0 'cause otherwise it clips....

Have you noticed that, when playing a tape, there's a threshhold where if you go any higher, the radio's bass disappears. Then if you lower the volume all the way to 0 ..wait for a couple of seconds then raise the volume again to just below the bass dissapeared before, it then sounds fine. Is it just me?

I'm old (42) so I don't need the thump-thump crap, BUT the factory head unit and speakers SUCK compared to a cheapo Pioneer head unit & speakers I threw in.......to anyone with the stock setup- don't fool yourself, it sucks A**. BAD.

i listin to it around 15-20.. anything higher my speakers sound like they are going to blow.. or crackle like hell hope that helps

jeez are you guys all deaf? i can't go past 6 without hurting my ears, this is daily street driving, on long road trips, i have to crank it to about 15-20, catless up and downpipe + exhaust pretty much drowns out anything lower.
