Woah $800 for a 1 gig of storage

Then you have to buy the head unit on top of that another $200-300. Plus extra 1 gig disks if you want.

Mass storage? I cant even fit 1/8 of my MP3 collection on a 1 gig hard drive LOL Its a cool idea but they need to seriously cut the price and make it like 20 gig or something. I still like the portable units you can squeeze any size lap top hard drive in there for much much cheaper than $800 plus you can take it out of the car and not worry about it getting stolen.

Ok I understand you're a little baised then. Consider this though...I have the JVC KD-SH99 head unit which plays MP3 CDs, you can fit 700MB on 1 CD. I paid around $300 for this head unit. This Blaupunkt unit holds 1 gig. So I'd have to pay an extra $500 for 300MB more storage then I still have to buy the matching head unit. I'm no financial genuis but that just makes no sense money wise to me. Tell them to drop the price dramatically or add some more capacity.

I agree with you Greg... but that Blaupunkt piece looks sooo cool. How fast does your JVC do the initial read of the MP3's off of the CD? I've heard that some of those MP3 players take a couple minutes to start up.

When I first put the disc in takes about 15-20 secs to start up...navigation is pretty fast though. Refer to my other post I just found a great MP3 site devoted to car and personal audio

Same for my Kenwood MP3 Player. Initial delay on disc insertion is maybe 15 seconds or so. It does take a second or two to display the IDTag for each song also, so when I'm flipping past songs really fast, it's like playing "name that tune"-- to see if you can guess the song your on by the first few notes faster than the ID3 Tag can be displayed.

That's about the only gripe I have with it, besides the fact that you have to burn it in Alphabetical order! I hate that too, but that is a Windows filesystem thing. Anybody know a better way to get the songs in a particular order other than renaming the filename of each song to "1.mp3; 2.mp3; 3.mp3" etc.?

    Socal,
Does the Blaupunkt changer unit play CD-Rs or CD-RWs? My dealer told me they didn't, but he wasn't sure.

Premier (Pioneer) also makes an in-dash CD changer that can be controlled with any of their head CD/MP3 units. Again, I'm not sure that it can play CD-Rs.

Does anyone make an in-dash changer that can play CD-Rs?

Just posted again because I found an answer to the original question. ECLIPSE makes a 6 disc, in-dash cd changer. They're pretty high end, so the price is about $550 retail.
