    Stereo upgrade help! :D

So I was thinking of purchasing a new headunit and some speakers to go along with it. I want to get the Alpine CDA-9857 headunit, with the ipod control cable. Ideally I would like to upgrade the speakers also. I have heard of people just replacing the front two... is this a decent option or should it be all or none? A friend of mine told me the alpine headunit i was looking at doesnt have a good enough amp to power decent speakers... this doesnt seem like it could be true concidering its price. Any suggestions on affordable decent sounding speaker? (I don't BLAST my stereo all the time, but I do listen to it pretty loud at times) Any reviews or input would really be helpful in the purchase process.

also.. the Forester DIN pocket runs about how much?

    Thanks!

I have a Alpine CDA 9855 in my car, I ended up replacing all the speakers. It sounds great, I'm still going to upgrade it with an amp and sub though, you can always use a little more power.

I picked up my Forester DIN pocket for about $25.

Thanks for the input, im guessing you got the DIN pocket from the dealer? In time I may add a small sub/amp.

    it will sound fine

i will sound fine if u go with 3way speakers like kenwood (is what i have) or something like that. but it would sound alot better if u go ahead and get a sub for ur mids and dont run nothing out of ur head unit, maybe so tweeters ur head unit is usually 50 by 4 and most speakers are around 75 to 100 continous watts so they will always be getting under powered but u wont be able to tell until u add a sub and what not.

This should have been put in the subaru line up quite some time ago

I still think id rather have the headunit because it will sound better, work better, and have a much better ipod hook up...not to mention it will be even better with upgraded speakers.

I agree, for as long as I can remember ive never really been a fan of aftermarket headunits. Just recently did I realize how crappy the stock sound system is... and seeing as though my birthday is on tuesday I thought id take advantage of the cash ill recieve and upgrade the stereo... Im choosing stereo over performance at this point because with 7k miles on the clock Im still very happy with stock performance and am becoming a better driver every day.
