2013 WRX Wagon: Audio upgrade Time! A little guidance if you could

    Hi guys,

I have a 2013 WRX Wagon (I hate that word lol)

I want to do a $1000 ish audio upgrade. Head-unit with NAv built in is a must. Quality over quantity, if i have to spend a couple extra dollars for something thats alot better, obviously i would.

HeadUnit: Kenwood-Excelon - Seems to have the highest reviews and cool features

    Kenwood Excelon DNX690HD Navigation receiver at Crutchfield.com - only has 3 EQ's

    Kenwood Excelon DNX890HD Navigation receiver at Crutchfield.com - 13 EQ's

Speakers: I dont know alot about, other then i dont think ill need component speakers if i get a sub... Any recomendations would be greatly appreciated

Amp: Ive never owned a good one- not sure how much power i need. JL Audio JX250/1 - seems to be the right match for the sub i was thinking about

Sub: JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3 - nothing but good reviews. I was thinking since the wagon is all open and its going to be in the trunk, this will work perfect.

    JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3 MicroSubâ„¢ slot-ported enclosure with one 8" W3v3 subwoofer at Crutchfield.com

    How many subs?
Are you looking to go 2 ohm or 4 ohms or less?
I used to have JL W6s and I ran them on a 1,500 RMS mono Mean Machine amp. Autotek makes some nice amps. Check them out to.
Configuration is going to be based on how much space you intend to use.
Where it's a HATCH (5 Door style) you would be better off with a small volume sealed box. I think ported sounds funny in a HATCH. But that's just my opinion.

I always liked Infinity speakers, either 2 way 3 way or components with crossovers.
This is going to be based on how much money your looking to spend. And what are your power/ sound quality requirements?

$1000 is only going to get you a middle priced/featured Nav unit. Look at the Pioneer NEX 4000 ($700 retail) you can get the Nav for free with AP mode and Waz ap. Your front speakers will be the heart of your system, cheeping out on them will result in mediocre results no matter what head unit you install. The OEM speakers are poor at best, adding a sub will help with base but nothing will help the OEM speakers produce good clean mid bass thru treble frequencies accurately. Good luck with your new system.
