Just picked up my 2011 WRX premium...sound system sucks!

So after being forced to trade my 06 wrx for a 2010 jeep grand cherokee I finally got a 2011 wrx last week. I love the car, however Im disappointed in the sound system. I do like the bluetooth though. does anyone have any suggestions on speaker upgrade? another thing I noticed is that the FM radios volume seems a lot lower then the bluetooths volume... any input on that?

Personally I'm a big fan of Alpine. I'd go with their speakers and an amp to match. However, you really need a good head unit to get the best sound, but you're generally going to lose out on the integrated bluetooth, especially the steering wheel controls. How important is that to you versus the sound?

Jl speakers. Use to work for an audio shop and they fit best in our small door speaker holes.

Personally, I love the sound of the EJ205/EJ255. Can't complain.

The speakers are actually not that bad...change out the head unit and it's a night and day difference. I too own a 2011 wrx and that's the first thing I did.

The FM performance kind of sucks. Kick up the bass a little and way up on the treble should help a bit. I have an iPod plugged in to the USB and that actually sound pretty good. Not great but at least in line with other mid range to upper mid level cars. From what everyone says, the speakers are fine, it's the head unit that is the problem.

H ad a VW that sounded pretty good, but had very little volume. I bought a head unit, speakers and a powered sub. I installed the head unit and after hearing that, returned the rest.

They have adapters that allow you to keep your bluetooth and steering wheel controls. They aren't cheap though.

The speakers ARE that bad. They've improved over the years but they still aren't all that great. If you're looking to improve sound it's better just to go all out IMO.

This, new speakers new head unit new amp to speakers, possibly a sub of some sort (I would only go with a 10 they can get extremely heavy) and an amp for the sub. Also look into getting an optima battery if you plan on upping the performance of your audio.

My recommendation (ordered list) for upgrades:
    H/U
    Sub/amp / Deadening (rear deck)
6.5" Component Speakers (Front) / Deadening (doors)

If you think you may buy speakers as well, my recommendation is to buy a 4-channel amp, so you can run it in 3-channel mode (Ch 1/2 for the speakers, 3/4 bridged for the sub).

Asking what speakers you should buy is like asking what exhaust you should buy; everyone will have different taste. Grab a collection of music you'd typically listen to (make the spectrum as broad as possible), then hit up local car audio stores, listening to what they have on display. Obviously, a cars acoustics will alter it slightly, but it will give you the best idea without sitting in other WRXs with XXX stereo setup.

^ this but be aware that most speakers will not fit in your 6.5 because of how shallow our doors are

You will need spacers for any speakers that you get.

...shallow door holes means that you have to be selective on the depth of the speaker you buy.
