Last time I was in Dallas it was 60.

Atlanta is posted at 65 or 75, but flow of traffic on the highways is about 90 (and you will be passed by cops when going 90)

I'm not sayen I want 100mph limits, but 55 is just too outdated. A national level bill that moves all highways and interstates to 65 or 75 would make me very happy though.

Culturally we all feel like we're supposed to be in a hurry...9 times out of 10 getting there 5 minutes sooner makes no difference at all. I lock the cruise on 5 over the limit, settle into the right lane, and enjoy the better mpgs. (Well, as much as a hybrid build can enjoy better mpgs.)

You may think that the speed limit is dated, but if the city/state/county felt that way they would survey it, create a plan of action, and change it. There was a 25 car pile up on my way home from Tampa...it was bad and I was stuck in traffic.

As a general rule I just try and keep up with the flow. On my way home from Tampa I had the cruise set at 80mph. The people in the right lane were going ~75 and the people in the left lane were usually about 85+.

See, that is the problem right there. The city/state/county doesn't spend enough on the roads as it is, and if they were to increase the limits on the highways and interstates they would need to do a lot of work resurfacing and regrading the roads to do it right. There are a few areas of highway around here that are graded the complete opposite of what they should be (road curves to the right...the high side is the right lane, the low is the left lane....you are diving around the outside of the ball, not the inside as you should.), and if traveling above about 60, you will hit the wall.

Yep, my parents had one in our 1977 Monte Carlo, for when we traveled. KBEA-5170, call sign "The Bandman".
