2011 WRX Bluetooth Mic

Lately, when placing or receiving a call, people have been having a terrible time understanding anything i say. When I got the car and played with it in the dealer lot before driving off it seemed to be perfect. Now, only 4-5 months and 3500 miles later, it seems awful.

I can have full service on my phone and still not be heard. Does the antenna have a huge effect on the mic? I ask because i generally ride with it down (parallel to the roof). Anyone else have any issues with it?

Could be your phone's connection with the car... what type of phone do you have? Where do you typically have it placed/mounted?

I bought the ProClip for the WRX and mount my HTC Incredible on the right hand center vent and haven't had any issues with my BT.

perhaps, hrmm... i have an iPhone 4 and usually just let it sit in a cupholder, my pocket or the little tray in front of the shifter.

Perhaps as a test try another family members phone in the ride or even placement tests...

I'd be willing to bet that placement is your culprit.

I have a similar issue. Used to be great (or maybe people were more patient because it was a new car), now people have a tough time understanding me. It's caused me to turn off Bluetooth on my phone and talk the old fashioned way. Weird too because music streams beautifully. I usually leave my phone in the cup holder behind the shifter. I'm also wondering where the mic location is. I'm willing to bet it's the first picture, that's my best guess!

I have a crappy old cell phone.It stays in my pocket & I have never had a problem with bluetooth.All calls are crisp & clear.

And about that first pic,I always wondered wth that was.I would lean more toward the mic being in the map light assembly as that is where it is usually installed.

The mic is in the roof with the map lights.

The thing next to the steering column is supposed to be the temp sensor for the heat/AC system.

The antenna on the roof is for your AM/FM radio. It has nothing to do with cellular, bluetooth (or XM if you have that).

+1 not phone placement.

It's too hard to point fingers at what the culprit is. I plan on just replacing the stock system in its entirety with one that doesn't suck.

I think getting a headset/earpiece for you phone, although obnoxious, is your best bet until then.

location of the phone shouldn't do much to the quality, my phone has been in a backpack in a trunk a bunch of times and it sounded equally crappy as in teh compartment by the shifter



after all, phones and cars are not intended to mix, like, like... hellaflush and hard cornering

People have reported problems caused by where the cell phone was located. It can make the Bluetooth connection "noisy" (which can often sound just like road noise / poor sound quality from the car's microphone). For some people, their phone is always that way. With others, moving the phone helped significantly.

The vent near the ignition is indeed for the A/C. I'm not sure about your model, but in some there's a little fan sucking in air so it can measure the interior temperature near the driver.

On the steering wheel you have those controls on the left, one does volume, another mic level.

When I bought the car it was set to "1", according to people i was talking with it sounded like s*!t too

So now i can consider the person at the dealership who told me that the hole by the keys is the mic a mong?
