    Underseat Subwoofer

My OEM Subaru "under the seat" sub blew this week and I want to replace it with something else. I don't want a sub in my trunk, so was looking at this:

    http://www.crutchfield.com/p_777B8PT...PT.html?tp=114

Anyone try this in their WRX? Any other "under the seat" subs I should look at?

Definitely positive reviews on the Boss model - and cheaper than what I was looking at. I like it.

    I have 2 questions that I can't find specific answers to concerning my double-din 2007 head unit/stereo:

1.) I will need to run a power cable from the batter to power this sub, but can I splice the wires out of what is currently connected to my OEM sub? ie, pick out the left/right +/- wires and run them to the new sub? I see post after post about "don't splice the oem wires - buy a harness"; yet when I talked to Crutchfield, they say there is no harness to buy to make this work.

2.) Seems the OEM sub automatically detects sound on the left channel - and turns on then. My HU doesn't have an amp turn on wire. How would this sub get turned on/off?

OK - I am slow, but learning.... I just need to connect the remote turn-on to a switched source that provides 12V. Does anyone have any ideas what wire I can splice into? I don't think I care if the amp is on when the radio is off - I just want the amp off when the car is off.

That's a good option, because it will only be powered on when the key is on.

You can use a parallel splice as well... but I don't like them as much:

OK - so I ended up buying the BOSS 8inch low profile sub. "Since" I was going to be wiring stuff up anyway.... I also bought a new HU: the Pioneer AVH-P3200BT.

This new setup is SO much more powerful than the stock system. Sounds incredible, even with the stock "premium" door speakers.

I know subs tend to take a little time to warm up, but it the BOSS already sounds amazing. I am very happy.

Anyone looking at a new double din HU, should consider the Pioneer 3200.
