    speaker help

I'm not huge in to cars, i'm sorry, mostly cause I'm a girl. However, my boyfriend loves his 2006 STI WRX more than anything.

I know he wants new speakers for it and I wanted to buy them as a gift for him, but seeing as I don't know the first thing about cars I need help from someone who knows STI's as well as he does. I'd like to keep the total cost under 300 dollars. Can anyone help me?

Alright.. are you thinking about doing just the speakers? or the deck? cuz you can get some nice speakers for bout $200 or so... i got 4 sets of very nice alpines for just under $200 after shipping for my wrx...
and you can use the other $100 for installation if he doesnt know how to do it

    I don't know what a deck is..

He has no idea I'm doing this so it's hard to get information from him. I know the inside of his car is completely stock. Do I have to buy this deck thing with the speakers? and how much does that cost?

Also- I know I have to buy the speakers like, individually, but how many do i buy? 2 or 4?

Awesome.. so here is what i would do...
btw.. deck = the stereo playing part excluding speakers

The speakers come in sets of 2... so you are going to want to get 2 sets.. one for each door.. otherwise it wouldnt sound that great...
you can use the upgraded speakers with the stock deck... BUT it will sound ALOT better with an upgraded one... =P (save that for next present)
myself.. i would get 2 sets of alpine speakers... (i actually just did)

However.. the front and rear doors arent usually the same size.. so you are going to order two different sizes for the doors...

I myself would get some Alpine type S speakers... and have them installed...

IF you were up in the seattle area.. i could do it for you =P

There is alot of different parts of the whole stereo that you can do.. but not for a total of $300... but thats what xmas and other times for presants are for

okay, well I'll save the upgraded deck for another time.

How do I know what size speakers I'm suppose to get? Are the Alpine type S high quality, like are those the popular brand?

Wow!!! You thought about what your boyfriend would want. You then took the time to find a forum for his type of car. Then go through the process of registering so that you can post a question.

You should get an award for this!!!

    ... and I agree with d_Ziggy_2000 100%

I swear by Alpine. Very well known company and they make great products.

Well the brand is alpine and the model is type S..
they are very high quality ones.. but i would shop online.. not in a retail store like best buy because they over price them like crazy... (i used to work for them and the markup is bout 300%)

you say the car is an '06 wrx sti?
