    Possible new HU.

I've been spending my time looking for a new Deck for my 09 WRX. I'm really looking for one with the USB/Ipod, 3 Sets of 4V Pre-Outs and a good EQ mainly.

I came across this and have been doing a ton of research on it but i was wondering if you guys/gals think it's worth the money.

I already have the rest of my system and first few performance/handling Mod's picked out. Just not the Deck.

I don't have any input on that deck, but just wanted to make sure you've got everything lined up as far as the dash trim kit, wiring harness, and steering wheel control interface (if you have them).

    Familiar with those?

I have the kenwood DDX512, kind of an older model but similar. I looked at a similar pioneer when I bought mine and for the price difference I went with the kenwood. It does basically everything the pioneer did for a cheaper price, but either one was nice if your looking to expand later on and get NAV/Satellite/Headrest Monitors. I would say the pioneer probably has a better equalizer than the kenwood though

^ I have that one as well .... well, the DNX5120 which is the same thing except comes with the nav already built in. Same modularity for backup cameras, sat radio, etc. Great unit.

Two major differences between that and what the OP linked to, the 5120 has only 2 (or 3 I don't remember) volt preouts, and is not a full 7" screen (has volume knob, which I actually prefer to the full screeen).

Absolutely LOVE my Kenwood though. I find the EQ to be fine, but then again I don't try to get a lot out of the stock speakers.

Well i'm hoping BEST BUY Can come through on this, in order to retain the 3 Year warranty on the DECK i need a receipt saying it was installed professionally. So i was going to have them do it. I assume they carry them. As for the the steering wheel control interface what do you mean? I only have cruise control buttons on my wheel do those run through the deck?

No, the steering wheel controls with the WRX Premium Package I was referring to -- they let you change songs/volume from the steering wheel.

    Pioneer AVH-P4100DVD- review & fit in a 04 sti.

hey so i have read a lot of reviews on this product and read many good ones yet a few bad like all products most have mixed reviews. Many sites have a feature where you can see if the product fits in your car based on the model and make, according to them none of their systems will fit in my 04 sti, has anyone else installed this pioneer, did you need any other pieces etc? Any help or advice is much appreciated! Thanks:]

I own this deck and have it installed in my 09 wrx, I can say its a great unit. I actually manage a car audio store and picked it for many reasons, mostly the 4v preouts and the great USB and Ipod control. Just a quick question Lockeddown..... are you in Canada????

Oh and i have the steering wheel controls and can find out which module you will need to programme it, the dash kit product number and the correct wiring harness you need tomorrow when Im back at the store.

here a pic of it installed.........

For about the same money, you can get the audiophile Premier PRS800. It has a copper chassis and 5v pre-out, tons of digital control, soundfield processors, BBE, and the best tuner Pioneer has ever created. I have this one, and it is really the best piece I have used.

I installed for Sazam's in Philadelphia, and VPS in Baltimore... total of 3 years in installation. The PRS800 is special order, but you can find online vendors with good prices, just make sure they are licensed dealers. The warranty is the best feature of any machine.

If the features of the unit you mentioned are what you are after, nothing Pioneer makes is bad (except for the WalMart subwoofers). I have a D2000SPL amplifier and 6.5" components from Premier, the high end line of Pioneer is finely crafted stuff.
I cannot speak for the OEL multicolor display on the AVIC units, but the Premier pieces are beautiful.

This is a great deck, although have you ever had problems with the mechanism? I have had 2 returned to the store because of a problem with the faceplate jamming when trying to open.

Nope... and that jamming problem comes from people being rough on it. The whole freakin' thing is solid metal. It's the only head unit I have ever seen where everything is metal, even the knobs.

I think because of the metal against metal where the faceplate joins it's mating surface, if you pull too hard or push too hard, it can bend. I haven't had it happen, but I never remove my faceplate. As far as the opening mechanism, nope, that's rock solid, and the pivot and motor are really hefty. I doubt the 08 and newer PRS800 have issues. The previous PRS800s did have a lot of weird quirky faults. I think the competition circuit has kept Premier's techs and factory up to solving everything. This unit has been perfect for a year now.

The reason is likely because the 04 STi didn't come with a radio from the factory. If you currently have a radio installed I'm sure you will be able to mount this.
