I installed a new stereo the other day, and it has a similar problem as the previous stereo, no AM reception.

    Where is the antennea?

    I have an 05' STi.

Is there a mod for a better antenna, I assume it is somewhere inside the vehicle because it definitely is not outside.

I listen to talk radio quite a bit and my favorrites are on AM.

    HELP!!!

    Thanks!!

....Chances are if you wired up your 04 wrx or sti (and most all other 04-present subarus) you've noticed that your radio reception was exceptionally poor. There are 2 reasons why.

    1. The rear glass mounted antenna unit needs to be turned on by a 12v power source. Here is a picture depicting the desired wire....

Your antenna is in the rear window.

Also metallic window films will interfere and not let you receive practically any AM reception. If your windows are tinted this is a very likely culprit. Especially since you only seem to have the problem with AM channels and not FM. This issue is less common now, as most shops know to not put metallic film on cars with window antennas but back in 04 & 05 is was still quite common.
