Can't Put Aftermarket CD-Player in 07 STI?

I did a search but wasn't able to come up with any good information on the subject. Anyway I just got my STI a few weeks ago and was planning to take it into the stereo place I have been doing business with for the last five years or so and from what they said they don't make any wiring harness', dash kits, trim pieces and all that other junk you need to do an install of a cd-player. They said they don't make the kits for them and there is no way possible I could install my Panasonic CD-Player, my Subwoofer, and my Amplifier in the car. They said the best we could do was to buy a kit for the factory stereo and then I could hook the rest of my system up but I would have to use the factory deck.

I'm obviously a little bit upset and confused as I'm pretty sure a bunch of people have aftermarket cd-players in there cars, the car's only a few years old but still you should be able to put a cd-player in it, it's not even worth installing the rest and using the junk factory cd-player.

Anyway my question is are they blowing smoke up my you know what or is the information correct and I can't just buy the parts and install it or order what I need to get somewhere so I can put my system into my new car?

I have a 2007 Subaru WRX STI as I'm sure your probably aware but just wanted to clarify. Any help would be greatly appreciated by appointment is tomorrow and I need to know if I should cancel it and what I can do and I haven't been able to find much information on the subject.

Yes they do....

The idiot at Best Buy told me the same thing.. that they only make them up to 2004 or something.

2002-2007 wiring harnesses.... all the same.

Don't even bother letting someone put it in for you... it is the easiest stereo install I've ever done.

No "dash kit" or anything else required... just a wiring harness, and your new stereo. You won't even need the aftermarket stereo bracket that comes with the stereo.... the aftermarket stereo will bolt right up to your factory bracket.

Amps.... speakers..... "maybe" you can pay someone to put them in if you really wanted to. The head unit though? A monkey could do it..... Just do it yourself and save some $$$

Thanks for the info guys I figured the guy had to have been crazy was freaking out for a minute there thinking I would be stuck with the stock head unit, I know how to do everything myself I was just planning on buying new door speakers and having it all put in by the stereo place as I have been doing business with them for years and they usually know what they are talking about and do very good work, they win competitions all the time and everything but I'm taking your word on it and am just going to install everything myself and just buy some new door speakers online and put them in.

The problem is that the "book" that they use isn't up to date... at all.

So they assume it can't be done.

Most of those stereo shops just hire jackasses off the street that say they can install a stereo... All it means is that they can follow directions, and may have happen to have done it once or twice..

Don't get me wrong.... there's some talented guys out there that custom fab speaker boxes and stuff that are amazing...... but as far as "winning" sound competitions is concerned........ Give me $20 grand to put into my car stereo.. I'll win a sound contest too--LOL

Thanks for checking back in again I appreciate the help I think I have the right part now so we are going to take it into the shop and install everything tomorrow, the guy who owned the car previously has most of the wires already in the car for hooking up the subwoofers and amplifier and I've picked up a couple things to make sure everything is going to work properly, either way I'm saving a couple hundred dollars and will have my system back.

I agree with you 100 percent on the stereo shop statement it does seem like a lot of those guys have no idea what they are talking about and are simply trained to do the same thing over and over while there are a select few who can do some amazing work. I think if I had an extra 20 grand to blow on my car it would be performance not stereo though

Will post some pics when I get everything installed, hopefully we don't mess it up too bad lol

Novtec1: Looks very nice you did a good job on it, gotta love those Alpine Decks I think I'm going to keep my Panasonic it's full color MP3 and all got it about a year about but when I upgrade from that I might go with a 7 lcd and a dvd player setup or something similar. I was thinking about selling my factory deck but if they ever come out with a non-hatchback four door WRX STI again rather than the current model which I'm not big on the looks I will probably end up trading my car in and putting the factory stuff back.
