2002 wrx stereo

I have a 2002 WRX wagon, and, like many of you I am sure, my stock cd/cassette only works when it feels like it! I was wondering...

What have you replaced yours with that looks clean?

Fortunately, the "hole" for the stereo in a WRX is very user-friendly. From 02-06 (maybe 07, not sure) the mounting points and wiring harness required are all the same.

Its a standard double din stereo..... so you can use a single din stereo with a pocket or compartment, or a double din... both will fit and look great.

Beware of stereos that fold open or slide out. Some will work, some wont. I have one, but I had to swap locations (stereo to the pocket, and vice versa). You won't need any special install kits or dash kits... just a wiring harness (under $10 on ebay).

In fact, even the factory mounting bracket is universal, so you can probably reuse it with your aftermarket stereo. WRXs are very mod friendly when it comes to stereos.

What year did they fix the stereo issue if at all. I am looking to put a 2006 sti cd changer in it. Was the issue fixed by then, and will it fit?

So what year is the WRX stereo safe without issues?
I was looking to replace it with a stock Subaru stereo.
Will a 2006 fit and work with issues? I guess I am wondering what year they fixed the issue...

I have a 2002 wagon aswell other then the radio just suxing mine works fine it may just be yours
