    Spent 2.5 hours cleaning today

Sorry for the lack of pics, but I dont have a camera, but I'll try to take some and post some tomorrow at the GF's house if the car doesnt get to dirty before then.

I started off with a nice wash job with meq. purple colored soap. Nothing to exciting here, but I wish I washed the car like show room every time. It always seems like I leave spots of dead bugs....I guess they are really hard to see when the water/suds are covering them.

After that I decided to use Meq. NXT wax for a second time. It did a nice job and althrough I havent used any other wax, I'm rather impressed with it. You can feel just by rubbing a rag over the paint where you waxed and where you havent. It took care of some minor paint issues I had. The wax isnt hard to get out of cracks either, and was easy to wipe off. The last coat I applied didnt appear to hold up that long but we'll see how this last.

The downside to waxing is I get to see all the little white spots the car has gotten. I'm very careful where I park and do not have any door dings. I guess some road debris has kicked up over time through. Nothing to crazy, just a spot on the hood (Which I accept fault for) and now a 2 spots on the drivers side rear door. Also the front has some minor white spots. These arent really noticable to the naked eye, but rest a shore everytime I look at the car they scream at me. I also love cleaning the nice dent a rock on the highway left on my passenger side front door....makes me smile. At this time I'd safely jump on the band wagon and curse the paint. I have also seen several black marks in the paint that I have to scrub to get out.

This time I spent extra attention to the spoiler area as last time I felt I neglected that part. I always have a dirt/grim buildup around where the wing mounts to the trunk. So I sprayed the area really clean with water and put a nice layer of way down to hopefully prevent to much grim from settling there.

Overall the wax job looks nice and I hope it doesnt rain for the next 2-4 days.

After that I made my move into the interior. After opening the passenger door I realized how nasty all the door jams were. So I took a damp rag and cleaned them up. I got most of the lose dirt and pollen off of it. I was debating to wax this area or not and decided not to. I took a damp cloth and cleaned off the dash, gauge cluster, shift boot, cup holders, and other random plastic peices. This worked fairly well, but I need to invest in a small duster to do this more often.

I have a bottle of Meq. Leather Interior Wipes that I am less then impressed with, but I figured I'd use up the bottle. I wiped down the seats (use the wipe and almost instantly dry the seats with a clean cloth where as to avoid that slippery shine feeling). I also applied this to the shift knob and wiped it off (The car is being parked over night and the shifter should dry off before using it tomorrow).

I then made my move under the hood wiping down as much as I could and get the leafs out from the spring. Also got alot of pollen that settled under the hood.

Luckily I cleaned my wheels about 2 weeks ago and havent been able to drive the car since then, so they werent dirty. I would like to wipe down my red calipers when the wheels come off for the 6k oil change and tire roatation as they have alot of dirt build up. That would also be a good time to clean the whole wheel of the brake dust.

Once I go back to work I'm going to use the shop vac and attempt to really clean off the carpet. I have Subaru rubber floor mats and they do an ok job and trapping dirt but it's not clean by any means. I also took a damp cloth to the rear seat area where it appeared my friends have been nice enough to kick random plastic peices around the seat area. Just a little surface dust with minor scrapes to the door card area.

Overall I think it was time well spent since I havent been able to drive the car in 2 weeks. Tomorrow will be the first day and I cant wait to drive it. I drove the escort for the last week and it's been painful. Hopefully it wont rain and I'll be able to get some pictures up of it.

I have decided it is basically worthless to attempt to maintain the car to my standards without a garage. I will still continue to wash and wax and clean the car as best as possible, but I'm starting to understand I cant keep it show room no matter how hard I try.

This is pretty much a useless thread.....sorry for ranting.

yeah i like nxt tech wax (did you use the paste or liquid?)

next time (if you have the time) look for meguiars 3 step system , you already have the third step , which is wax. get the paint cleaner and polish and you will be AMAZED at what a difference it makes.

    nice writeup.

About Meg's 3 step, can't the scratch X stuff be used as the paint cleaner? I don't remember where I saw that

I really like the Meg. 3-step system... I only use step 1 and 2 occasionally though, they could get a bit tough on paint w/ an every wax usage
