Cool, thanks for the reply Yeah, the frame rails on my 98' Grand Prix GTP are rusted horribly from all the salt and stuff. So I'm just trying to figure out how to prevent that from happening with my next car, so it lasts.

so just to get this straight....i should rinse my engine bay first, then spray the simple green on it and let it sit but not for too long, and then fully wash the bay again to get rid of all the detergent...correct?

Correct, and if you'd like you can scrub away at most of the motor or firewall (whatever is dirty) with a rag or brush and then spray it down.

Afterwards it really is a good idea to take her out for a lil spin just to let it warm up and burn off any excess water left over.

Glad it worked for you. Did you read the entire first post before trying this?

I have not been able to find the motorsports version - where did you get it?

Awesome thread with some outstanding results! I've detailed cars for 7 years now and would love to add some of my favorite tools for engine bay details - these are useful throughout the car, not just the engine bay:

Best wheel brush you'll ever buy

Great all around brush, perfect for badges/crevices. Buy a spare for interior work.

Cosmoline remover - don't see this issue on too many Subies, but always good to have around

P21S TAW (total auto wash) great all around cleaner (think simple green) that's safe everywhere

And finally, an engine bay shot
