I owned a 97 5 speed prelude with i/p/e before I got my wrx. Let me say that the prelude was quick from a roll. I think they are about even with us, stock for stock, from a roll. Same with the rsx-s.So of course the lude is gonna win with a 65 shot.. . Also, that guy (wordie) doesn't like to race unless you race him in second gear right before he hits vtec ( i think in a lude thats 5200 rpm) . That way he gets a nice strong pull almost instantly. The wrx was stupid to race him like that , he was probably not even at 3000 rpm at the speed they raced from. Finally, he can say all he wants that his cameraman counted with his fingers cause the rex guy couldnt hear the 'beeps'. What Bull****. He jumped him you can hear it. He guns it before the 3rd honk.

I think he (wordie) should race a wrx with nitrous and see what happens.

There is another vid on that site with a nitrous lude vs. a moded wrx. They race from a stop, and the wrx DESTROYS it. Moded vs. moded there is no comparison, the lude, even supercharged, can barely crack 13's..

I realize that. But we're not talking about a Z-06 vs. an Escort here (although some of those Cossies in Europe might just give the Z-06 a run for it's money). I do agree that the best way to test driver vs. driver alone is putting them in the same cars, but realistically, could that actually happen? Probably not. So the 1/4 mile is what we've got. Whatever you drive, you can put it on the strip and find out in short order just how good you are and how fast your car is. Easy, quick (hopefully), and fun :-)

You did mention one of the biggest fallacies about drag racing however - that the car is more important than the driver. Simply not true at all. I've seen Mustangs than run 10's all day bog a launch and then miss a 1-2 shift and run mid 14's. Anything can happen. I am not saying hardware doesn't make a difference, but (as I saw in someone's sig here) "The mod behind the wheel is the most important mod". Racers have a saying, that a good driver in a slow car is quick, and a good driver in a quick car is unstoppable. Quite true.

Maybe this would illustrate - last trip I made to the track, I took my Miata there. It's really just an autocrosser, but I wanted to see how fast it was just for grins. I have some go-fast stuff done to it, but it's no 12-second car, that's for sure. My first race was against a Grand National with an alcohol injector kit. I knew I was gonna get spanked. Guess what? He blew his RT (musta been asleep with that 1.2 seconds he got there), and then blew his launch and just sat there spinning his tires. It so happens that I won that race - I was actually first across the finish line, and beat his time by 1/2 a second. I launched very well, and shifted perfectly. I watched him get his launches down and get a few high 12 second runs in the rest of the day, but the fact is I still beat a car I had no realistic chance, if driving skill had been equal on that run. Not to say he was a bad driver, he wasn't really - he was just getting it dialed-in. But on that run, I was the better driver.

Point here is that I'm not saying "My Miata wasted a Grand National" and posting videos of it on the internet. His car is much faster than my Miata (now maybe my RX-7 could get him...hehe). I didn't try to sucker him into lopsided "pseudo-races". But on that race, on that day, I won. You never know if you have a chance or not until you summon up the guts to really do it. Anything else is just self-congratulatory nonsense.

    (Sorry, edited for language)
I own various Miatas and RX-7's in race trim
One or two of them actually run now :-)

SilverX, I saw that video too. WRX w/ MBC and exhaust absolutely destroys the supercharged I/E/H Prelude from the stop. It is one of my favorite WRX video ever!

I race bikes, it more fun than cars.. Last week I beat a honest to goodness professional racer in a real sprint. I'm talking pro, guy who races for a living. We were out doing sprint workouts, and on one of the sprints, everything just happened to be in my favor. Does that mean I am now somehow a better overall sprinter than the other guy? Does that mean I'm a pro bike racer? No.

Man, you WRX guys are so picky.. Maybe that prelude is just a faster car, and has a better driver...

I do agree, but that last statement does not apply to all the people here, only a few.

KJ0813, I know different factors matter. Hell, I have beaten people in my Geo Prizm that my S4 should have trouble with. I am not saying that driver does not matter at all. I am simply saying that there are different types of racing, different factors, and different results all around. If you ask a rally racer or an autocross guy what he thinks of drag racing, they will say it is cheesy and requires almost no skill. Is that true? Of course not. But everyone has their own likes and dislikes. Heck, some people would argue that you raced someone who should have no skill in the GN just based on the fact that it is an automatic. Now you and I both know that is a serious machine. If you beat it in a Miata, than you can definitely chalk it up to either great driving on your part, horrible driving on his part, or in this case, a combination of the two. I am not bashing your views or interests. I am sorry if it seems like that is what I am trying to do. I am just stating my points that happen to differ with some of yours. I'll tell you one thing though, a lot of people are bashing automatics. I would take a Grand National in a heartbeat. It really is one hell of a car.

    Actually ....

Some guy and I rode in his brother's Prelude and it was SLOW. We took the REX out for a while and asked if we could take the Prelude out since I never been in a new Prelude. Umm it was slooooow ... like we were waiting for the car to pull but it never did. I think it had an exhuast, intake, etc. but still very very slow. I raced a guy w/ a Prelude on 285 just after I did my downpipe and catback mods at 60mph. I let signed to let him go first and I was in 3rd. I got 3/4 of a car before my toys kicked in a by the end of 3rd I was many many cars ahead. He gave me a bunch of complements on my car which I thanked him for. Ironically the next week later the guy saw me at a car event and said ...

"Wait ... didn't I race you on 285 last Sunday morning?"
    "Umm I don't know?"
"I drove the Prelude. It has to be you because I remembered getting beat by some red WRX w/ a roof rack."
"Haha ... thanks ... then it must have had to be me."
"Yeah you Tanabe SRM is loud and mean. That's so pimp."

It's cool when people are cool w/ winning and losing.

heh mine too. Shows you what happens when you try and mess with a wrx from a stop.

Hey , I've been meaning to ask you, compeletly off topic. How do you like your BPM GT? I've been looking for a nice loud exhaust but I want one that sounds mean but not rediculous. How does it compare with other exhausts you have heard?

2001S4: Think of it this way. When you race the 1/4 mile. You both have a constant, the Tree. That way no honks or anything that someone could get an unfair advantage off.

    thats just plain stupid
they think they are tough because they have to use NOS to beat our REXs
if we put NOS in a stock WRX we would kill any Lude no matter how much it is modded with NOS or not

Hahaha Jim! You're crazy! I'm sure that alot of us would want a peice of that guy too.

I'm not sure if you guys noticed but if you watched his other videos and actually saw the driver "w0rdie", he's the type of person that my friends and I make fun of... what is that word that my friends call these type of people?.. ohh yea I remember now... he's a busta. (guy who thinks he's 'thuggin' but is just a wannabe.)

"Busta! what it is right now?! Busta! what it is right now?!" Heheh...*

I actually know the person who moderates that street racing forum and he happens to have i/h/e with the jrsc. We used to race back in the days...

But anyways, I'm hoping to get some goodies for Veronica so I can see how she runs against that prelude.

Lame, the WRX driver was asleep at the wheel. Unless the other guy has lots more power, the person dictating the race is always going to get the jump...street racing rule #1.

Prelude=Qualude - they've been slow since they came out in the early 80s and are still overpriced, overweight, buffy mobiles.

Every Qualude I've run with on the freeway I've destroyed. Let them keep thinking the WRX has no top end....
