When I was in LA this past summer, I saw a black G35 coupe come up behind me on the freeway. I noticed he had a big front mount intercooler. I didn't try to race him as there was a lot of traffic and no good opportunity. Anyway, he cruises past a couple lanes over then just gets on it. He goes from 65 to probably 100 in no time. Beware, apparently G35 coupes with turbo kits have some crazy topend power.
    Just thought I'd share.
    Sorry.

You are correct. G35 TT's run mid to high 12's and trap around 108-112mph depending on how the car is tuned.

The car was a six speed if memory serves me correctly. It is possible he was just a bad driver. Now I'm interested. I'm going to research the cars some more because I thought they were slow.

how much is the twin turbo kit going for them? eip tuning just came out with a turbo kit for the r32 for $6500 and will easily get you around 12.0, if not better.

yeah, 6500 for 350whp and 350lbs trq. Easily high 11's can be seen with this turbo. Its a lot better than HPA's $25k kit that runs you into the low 11's!

How would the trans hold up with 350whp?

That being said, I've only taken my car to the strip once. That was the last day of it being open last summer and was around the same time as I raced the G35, maybe a couple of weeks later. I only had three runs because it was packed. The best was I think a 14.80 and I had horrible boggy launches not having figured it out yet. I don't remember what my trap speeds were but I'll try to find the slip. I googled quarter mile times for a g35 and they were all between 14.6-14.8 in all the reviews I read. Doesn't sound like a fast car from what I've seen.

About the race. The guy revved me, I nodded, and we rolled into it from ~30. Took it to about 70-75 and I was at least three car lengths ahead so I hit the hazards and slowed down. I rolled down the window, gave the thumbs up and told him I had a couple other races if he wanted. So he followed me back. He was definitely trying. I think it was the track model because it had Brembos and 19's which he said were a factory upgrade. He then raced two of my buddies in a three way race. My friend Eric in an 86 5.0 who at the time ran a best of 14.3 at the track. This other guy we knew with a first gen talon tsi. They both creamed him.

But, like you said, anything can happen on the street.
Not true at all. G35c auto's are mid 14sec car no problem and trap about 3mph higher than a wrx. the 6speeds will run 14.0-14.3 all day long and trap at nearly 100mph.
The guy you encountered was def. not a good driver. I am not taking anything away from you, but realistically your car is not faster than a G35c 6spd from a roll or dig. The car is going to trap more than 5mph higher than you and only get MUCH faster as speeds exceed 90mph.
They are not as slow as you think obviously. The car runs low 14's right there with a WRX, but is much consistant. Thats why I say the 6spd G35c is faster than the wrx. wrx will rarely get a 14.1-14.3..... most drivers that are not extremely experienced in launching will run 14.4-14.7 stock where as the G35c MT will run pretty consistantly in the 14.1-14.3 range and trap over 5mph higher while doing it.
