Two people were suprised yesterday.
I was one, and the guy I raced was the other.
To set the scene, I was on an early morning cruise with a stock 01 wagon and a lightly moddedToyota Soarer (http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_1187/...popularArticle - AKA SC400 for the USDM). Just coming off the freeway we caught a three lane light - my modded 99, the 01 and the TT Soarer all lined up in the emerging morning sunlight. Even with a really bad laggy launch I caught the 01 halfway through second, but couldnt drag in the Soarer.
At the second light a 5.0L Commodore had seen us and wanted a piece of the action, and he manouvered into the grid between me and the Soarer. This time I was ready and on green I launched at 4k. The 5.0 disappeared behind us and I was left wheel to wheel with the Soarer. I didnt think these things were that fast, but we were completely level until about 140kmh when I pulled the width of a number plate in front before we shut down.
A few kms later we pulled over at a gas station, he was suprised at my WRX and I was amazed to not have completely owned the Soarer, which up until now I had thought were luxury cars with a little bit of overtaking stick.
We then proceeded to hit some serious twistied down along the Great Ocean Road, at which point the Soarer was drifting into third place behind the two WRXs.
All in all, new found respect for a old mans sports car and I'll be watching out for the 2.5l TTs from now on.
(For reference - my mods are CAI, APS TMIC, Unichip, 3" Turboback, whiteline suspension - about 300chp)
