I think what he's getting at is the lack of knowledge by many car owners, and only until recently have people really began to notice the WRX as a major player. Obviously, how could anyone now days not know about the performance of the WRX when the media has been cramming it down our throats for the past year

Agreed, I've had 2 (quite uninformed non-car) people ask me "what is that thing, a new Kia?" While I was a little pissed that somebody would mistake my beast for such a POS, I do like our celebrated sleeper status. As I'm soon cranking the power up on my car, I think more and more how I'm just gonna let it look stock from the outside

Agreed. I really can't see WRX's as sleeper. I suppose because you haven't had them that long people haven't had much time to rice them out yet (over here they are more riced out than civics)

and as for confusion with neons or rios.... ouch! that is nasty

Still I would really love a JDM STi

To be perfectly honest I could see how that could happen. Example: If it was at night, raining, you were dizzy, drunk, and crossing your eyes.

haha........... damn funny. You should see the ppl faces when they try to figure out what kind of car I have at night and they only see the projector lights (close to HID with Nokya bulbs)...........some girl almost fell off a curb trying to look.

Had an interesting "avoid the WRX thing happen tonight." I was behind a super-ricey Focus (the muffler actually didn't sound terrible) and he had his blinker on to go left and so did I. So he revved a bit, and then I revved a bit too expecting that we would go as we made the left turn. Then I saw him look back in his mirror again and his eyes kinda opened wider as he realized it was a WRX, he instantly hauls out of the left turn lane into the other lane and takes off away from me. Guess he didn't want to pick a fight he was gonna lose, but it was pretty funny.

At least the people who appreciate it know what the WRX is and what it can do. I feel it is like that with a lot of specialized things - people either really know it and like it, or have no idea and dismiss it for something else (Kia, hyundai)

The back of the Kia Rio has a semi simlar look to the WRX, more so in the lights then anything else. Only from a distance thought.
