It looks like a modified 309 GTI 16V. 160hp at 6,250rpm. It has the 405 MI16 engine in it. (It could also be a regular 309 GTI and that would be slower).
Curb weight is 1,000Kg which is very light, ~2,200lbs. 0-60 in 7.5 seconds, not bad for a "regular" 4 cylinders 1991 car. A turbo in it would have been real nice. Euro gas price probably prohibited that.

Apparently many people who bought that car are happy with it. Cheap interior and noise are the main problems. And the look... dammit, what were they thinking?! Even back then people were saying it was ugly. It didn't and won't get any better. I remember I wanted one when I was 17. Because of its performance. It was somewhere around $18,000 back in 1991.
