Don't you mean "underrated"? But the flywheel rating wouldn't be that high, remember it's only FWD, so drivetrain loss isn't as high as in the WRX or STi. Regardless, a quick history lesson...Originally posted by audirs6

The 2003 model had a factory rating of 215 hp and 245 lb.-ft. However, it was common for production models to dyno at 220+ hp and 240+ lb.-ft AT THE WHEELS. It sounds crazy, but this car actually puts out dyno figures higher than its factory ratings, so in reality they are more like 235+ hp AT THE CRANK. You're probably wondering why any car manufacturer would be so "humble," but in the June 2003 issue of R&T, Dan Knott (head of DaimlerChrysler's PVO) said "It's always better to be a little conservative on your power ratings." (Just look at the Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG. It might be rated at 476 hp, but most people believe it's closer to 500, considering how it outguns most other 55s with the same engine but rated at 493 hp.)
The 2004 model has factory ratings of 230 hp and 250 lb.-ft. At first most people thought that the bump was just to correct the stock figures, but there really was a bump in power, thanks to bigger injectors (part of Mopar's Stage 1 upgrade for the 2003 model) and updated ECU to stay up-to-date with the new parts (not to be confused with the electronics part of the Stage 1 upgrade). And obviously, these models are dynoing even higher numbers.
It's better to just stop hating on it and to stop looking for something wrong with it. (This isn't directed at anyone, just to SRT-4 haters in general; I used to be one until I test drove one.) Although it's unfortunately FWD (instead of RWD or AWD), it is ridiculously faster than most cars anywhere near its price range. Even though its interior is still somewhat rent-a-car style (which kind of bugged me), don't forget that it's under $21,000, so I hope you weren't expecting leather massaging seats with a DVD navigation system, much less the capability of running high-13s STOCK... but at least you get that.

Wow. thats a lot of hp!! Anyone ever wonder how much hp an STI would have with only the rear wheel drive in action? You know that thing where they are able to disable the front and convert it to rear wheel drive by welding something. I know.... its stoopid but just wondering how much hp we would have without more drag in the drivetrain. Anyone wanna take a guess?

I still never saw a stock srt-4 trap like the mags got 100-104 mph never. Could it be because most people who have a srt dont know how to drivew (its 20k and most kids can get there hands on one) or maybe its the traction problem, but i still never saw them do well at the track.Originally posted by Beanboy
