A buddy and I were returning from our club's Tuner Thursday's at Kahuna's in Wilmington DE and on our way through Newark DE, I was slowing down for a red light when a red S2000 with a passenger screams by on my left, whips over into my lane and then into the right hand turn lane at the light.
I was going straight, but this was basically what I considered a gauntlet slap to the side of the head, so I immediately gave chase.
He turned right, cut across 2 lanes, got into the left lane and turned left at the next light. I was right behind him as I didn't know his driving skills yet. Sure enough, he broke traction going left and swung his tail out. Good thing I stayed behind or he would have swiped me.
We are now on a 4 lane street, NO TRAFFIC!!! He is in the left lane and accelerating hard, about 3 car lengths ahead. I'm in the right lane, in 2nd gear. With a clear shot ahead, I hammered it. I immediately caught up nose to nose with the S2000 and could now see two gentlemen in ties in the car. The driver looks over with a WTF is that look in his eyes and the passenger looks over with a smile. I shift into 3rd, put about 3 car lengths on him immediately, then slowed down and let him catch up, just to let him know I can take him at will. I then slow down and let him go on. He stops in a short while to turn left into a Honda dealership, the passenger gives me a thumbs up, and we're on our way.
I will never, ever forget the look on the drivers face. You could read it like a book...he thought he had left me far behind and suddenly, there I was, just smokin' on by him. Not just walking away, but leaving him like he was standing still! His eyes were as big as dinner plates and man was he pissed!!! My buddy was laughing for about 10 minutes after. Kept say "Did you see his face...did you see his face...."....
I found out today it was a salesman driving and he lost the sale because the buyer thought the S2000 was too slow. Although I feel a little guilty about that, I also feel he shouldn't have screamed by me like that....my big rear wing takes affront to stuff like that.
I thought those cars were a bit faster than that, but honestly, it was rediculously easy. Guess I overestimated them. Still a good looking car though!
