This is a discussion on M3- doesnt have much oomph at highway speeds? within the Comparison: WRX vs World forums, part of the Community - Meet other Enthusiasts category; sounds like it coulda been 330, 323, or 325 with an identity crisis. I see tons of cheeseballs around here ...

sounds like it coulda been 330, 323, or 325 with an identity crisis. I see tons of cheeseballs around here in 325's with m tags, body kits, or shaved tags. Sometimes it requires a keen eye. look for quad pipes sleek rims, and extremely pimp greenish hid lamps.

Even though i smack around e36's now, i would lose every time when stock... Which is why Cobb tuning makes me happy.

As for the E46 they also sport about 290wheel hp, so yea a stock wagon making 165 (on a cold dry day) has no shot, any distance and lead you got would be taken from you like a sucker from a baby.

    I agree, that was not an E46 m3 you were racing.....it was a re/de badged 3 series...

an E46 would pull on you like a raped gorilla, your stock wagon would see tail lights from any gear, any speed

stage 2 is ecu reflash plus full exhaust and still utilizes stock header.

From my experience a stage 2 wrx will beat an e36 m3 with intake and exhaust from a highway roll.

    HA HA! funny

I meant no disrespect with that comment. I really did not know what stock power was for these cars. I think you may have the models confused. The E46 has closer to 300 not the E36, and I would hope that you would pull on me if you're in the 12's

I agree that a stage 2 should beat a stock E36. It would be interesting to see how one would do against me.

    Nah..just general knowledge...

My friend has a M roadster 01 w/the m3 engine and I used to be a base stage 4 w/a stock tmic and I was throwing down 250whp and 232 tq on a vf 22. We raced several times and from a roll I would win. Then we found out that his 315 crank hp was actually 251whp...so then it made sense...Those BMW's lose alot from crank to hp....at least a little more then most. Not very "underated from the factory"

The E46 M3 power level you quoted is for an exceptionally strong-running car. More typical power level is 265rwhp give or take a few.

No disrespect taken, as I took it in fun, just as I tried to post in fun. It's all about respecting everyone's vehicles, be they slow, fast, nice looking or butt ugly. I just couldn't resist the jibe, and FWIW, a stock E46 won't pull on me until we are way into triple digits. I respect them for their tuetonic engineering and looks, but man that price...yeoww!
