rx8 straight line performance is overatted and everybody knows that they were supposed to have 255 hp and have been downgraded..people have problem running times that they supposedly can and they have like 180whp..basically off a stop you can take them...mbc and you can take them off a roll...i have no problem with rx8's off a roll or stop with mbc dp/up/catback
BUT...on a track as in laguna seca..a road track..they are nice for handling..sharp cars on the track i'll hand them that much
I checked one out @ the dealership....the interior was nice, fit and finish were nice, sitting in it was nice...I would just never buy it.
I'd take my WRX any day of the week in any situation over the RX-8.
Mazda seems to be doing too little too late recently. They really need to step up big time and get their sh*t together if they want to stay competitive.

I think the '8 is a good-looking ride. It just needs more power with that body. Not that it's a dog. It isn't. But a car that looks like that should have a little more scoot.

Although I haven't really ben following what Mazda has been doing lately, I don't think they're cars have been especially lack luster. I mean, the RX-8 is relatively slow in the straight line, but I doubt Mazda meant for it to be a straight-line beast. It's supposed to contend with the S2000s, and from what I've seen in B-Stock, it does exactly that.Originally posted by Trailboss

The Mazda 3 is an awsome little vehicle, but its nothing really new.
MazdaSpeed Miata? Finally, after many years, Mazda has listened to what Miata fans, or what would-be Miata fans and gave them a little extra juice. But again, not a straight-line car.
Mazdaspeed is a joke. I just bought a miata for fun and the only way to make it fast is to drop a LS1 in there...
And yes, it can and has been done![]()

They put down similar power numbers as a stock wrx, so a drivers race from a slow roll. Not sure about high speed roll-on racing though, since they have a six-speed to better make use of available power

The RX-8 is a nice sports car, and is typical Mazda. Not enough power to satisfy the biggest leadfoots, but it has a slick shifting gearbox, very good handling, and amazing feel through the steering wheel and seat! You really know what the car is doing on the road at all times. They are fun to drive, just don't look to be the champ in the quarter mile. Thats not really the cars purpose. They are about handling and road feel, and Mazda does those qualities as good as anybody!
It needs more power. It's too much of a dog in acceleration. My friend has one and he barely beat an Escalade.
I'll keep that in mind nextime I see one behind the wheel in my dad's 'lac tankOriginally posted by ilivas

The RX8 is a great little car; looks sweet in black, and nice interior. I'm sure it handles great. Not enough straight-line performance to get my attention, though...

its harder to mod it as with most newer mazdas too. They definatley went for stability on the rx-8 with the rotor. I've heard most newer mazdas can only handle somthing like 4-6 pounds of boost stock without getting stronger internals.
I also heard on an rx-8 forum that its hard to dyno them, somthing about the front wheels having to be moving also.
Car and Driver had a small write up about the 2005 release RX8 with an electronically assisted turbo charger. i hope they do it right!
