Stage 2 WRX vs. Volvo S40T

Haven't posted in here in a while, but I figured, why not?

I was just out at a meet (check Everyday Impreza Talk for pics) and encountered an S40 sedan on the way back. We were playing around for a while and ended up next to each other at a light. I didn't know we were racing, so he got a launch on me, but I quickly punched it. I pulled to about half a car in front of him and we stayed pretty even through 2nd and half of 3rd gear before shutting down. Of course, we needed a rematch!

A few miles up, we come to another light. He revs, I rev back, check for po-po and any babies in the road and wait for the light to turn. Green light comes and I get a wicked launch, probably one of my best, tires spinning and everything, and immediately pull almost a full car on him. I get maybe another half a length on him before we shut down around 60mph.

We come to a third light and finally get a chance to chat. He tells me he has a chip (a quick web search says that the chip puts him around 200 hp) and 2.5" exhaust and compliments me on the type-h BOV. We go our seperate ways at the next intersection. Good guy, good pull, WRX 1 - Volvo 0.

    Nice graceful kill

What tires are you running to be spinning them throughout 1st?

Continental ContiExtremeContacts. They didn't spin through first. Just on the launch.

No fast Volvos around here that I know of. Would definitely be a surprise to roll up next to one that could hang though. Nice kill.
This car is making a poor man even poorer.

When I lived in Champaign before moving to Chicago the guy I worked on my car w/ was a turbo brick. He had/s an 1988 760 that he has modded. He runs up to 20 lbs and I have no doubt that on a few days he would have handed me my butt. Gotta respect a guy who would tear the crap out of his car and have the knowledge to fix it and go again time after time.

    S80s are fast too

The S80 type Rs are hella quick, especially modded. Also, the S40 is a 1.9T. I could beat stock S40s with my A4, but alas, those days are over

thats sad you only put a car length. iF he is stock you should put bus lengths on him, even if hes modified. Are you shure it wasnt a S60 or S80 because S40s are slow there in the audi A4 1.8t range which a stage 2 should put bus lengths. Am i missing something?

My wife has an '04 S40. It seems very slow compared to my old stage 1 WRX.

I hate that car.. It's pretty nice, but god I hate driving it.

my buddy drove nothing but old ass turbo volvos and hes come home sometimes with teh turbo seriously glowing red. (i guess thats common for old volvos?)

hes a moron though and kills cars so it may be that...

regardless at my old job wit ha major st louis volvo dealer as one of our clients....there are some FAST volvos out there. i dig em.

not to mention the volvo dealer would actual sell the used old brick bodys with 200K out of their lot next to brand new ones...

never understood that other than i guess it was volvo loyalty buying them for their kids??

volvo is cool in my book.
