I don't like any of the Volvo's since Ford took over and the saftey standards went to sh*t. My parents drive a '96 850 GLT and I love that thing. The new ones....... oh well.

That's cool. I just felt to the need to clarify that Ford owns Volvo, not VW.

When? I hope they don't screw it up like the S4. I traded in my 01 S4 for my WRX. Shifted like a pig, weighed like a cow, drove like a walrus....veritable zoo in that car The ESP system sucked too. This is all compared to my previous M cars.

It WAS fast though after a little tweaking. But too expensive to mod at the time. I wish I hadnt of traded in my M Roadster for it! *sigh*

Not only does VW own all those car companies but get how they are maximizing profit by re-using things.

Did you know that the: VW-Beetle, VW-Jetta, VW-Passat, Audi-A4, Audi-S4, Audi-TT, and a COUPLE OTHER cars are made off of the SAME chassis platform! I read that in a magazine, I think there were a total of like 8 different brand/models that all use the same platform. So, they develop one type of car and make a HUGE profit by selling it in bazzillions of differernt levels and trims.

That's called really good marketing! Not a good thing if you're after individuality, but heh, it helps keep the prices down - well sometimes...

    From Audi News
In addition to unveiling a working MMI for journalists to sample, Mr. Hunt confirmed that approximately 850 US-spec versions of the RS6 sedan will arrive in the US in the Spring of 2003. Pricing has yet to be set for the bi-turbo, 4.2-liter V8 RS6, but we do know that it will put out 450 horsepower at 6,500 rpm, generate 415 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,950 to 5,600 rpm, cover the 0-60 mph test in 4.9 seconds and will be governed to 155 mph.

The RS6 will incorporate Dynamic Ride Control (DRC), an active suspension using shock absorbers that ae diagonally connected hydraulically to dampen the vehicle along both longitudinal and tranverse axes. According to Audi, DRC will virtually eliminate body roll and pitch as we know it.

ESP 5.7, 8-piston Brembo calipers, quattro IV, a five-speed Tiptronic transmission with paddle shift and 9-spoke 8.5" x 18" RS wheels, front and rear sport seats (with the RS6 logo embossed in the headrest), Xenon lights and a Bose Symphony II sound system round out the package.

    EMPIRE?

First of all I would like to introduce myself. I have been gleaning an incredible amount of information from this site and am very impressed with what I have found. As the current owner of a mildly modified Dakota, to be traded on silver WRX within 2 months, I must of course disagree on a few dishonorable mentions of the DAK, but just because it's what I drive. I believe the SUB is a far more advanced piece of machinery, than the Dak could ever be, although it just does something to the soul to hear an American V-8 climbing over the cam. Anyway I digress, I was going to ask if Subaru is an Independent Manufacturer or is it part of some enormous conglomerate like the VW empire.

I thought someone else would answer this...

Subaru is mostly owned by FHI, a huge transportation and other industries company. 21% of FHI is owned by GM.

Where do you guys come up with this stuff? Seriously.

FHI is an entity of it's own. It makes Subaru, that's the onl brnad it has in the automotive industry. GM owns 20% of FHI. That's it.

Nissan is actually 44.4% owned by Renault and 3.71% owned by Clarion. They produce Nissan, Infinity, and Yulon Motors vehicles.

It's called a search engine, people.
