Almosk Killed by a Dodge Dakota

Last night about 11:00 PM, wife and another couple were passengers im my WRX when a Dodge Dakota Club Cab PU started riding my bumper REAL hard in our development. Nobody speeds there because of all the cops and the insult to the neighbors. But the speed limit is 30 and I'm going about 40. I flashed the brake lights twice then, when he continued to tailgate, I just pulled to the shoulder to let him pass.

Instead, he pulled next to me, stopped, opened his passenger side window and hurled some insults. I got outta my car and approached the open window. I might have called him a mofo or sumthin' but I wasn't happy he had failed to notice I did not want him tailgating me and had stopped to let him pass. There in the PU sat a fat middle aged guy with no brains and fewer muscles.

But when he stuck that pistol in my face, everything changed. I should have known better than to approach anyone who was behaving so irrationally.

    Be careful out there.

Please tell ust you reported the incident to the police.

Whether you pack or not in the future is your business, but I think if you had at the time of the incident, it might've been worse.

Obviously, the guy in the Dodge is unstable. He endangered you and your passengers from the time he began tailgating you. If you had pulled out a gun in response to his display of his own gun, you would've only given him justification in his mind to fire away, and claim self-defense. Unless, of course, you make it a practice to never get out of you car to confront idiot drivers without pointing your pistol at them first. And I doubt that's what you have in mind.

Missed the license number. Called the cops but changed my mind about filing a complaint.

He didn't pistol whip me (hit me) but he threatened to shoot me. I know brandishing is against the law.

I'm not going to pack. Neither do I intend to engage in gunplay.

Thats a pretty extreme case of Road rage. Anyone else have similar stories?
What makes it wierd instead of passing you he had to pull behind and give you a piece of his mind.
If worst came to worst, you could have lost him in the neighborhood or driving around somewhere else.

Glad you got out of that situation with your life, bet he feels like a big tough guy now, like the guy that is going to prison from my incident last week.....see my thread on a similar event Friday. You've learned the same lesson as I did this week, people are nuts today, let them be.

I'm very glad you weren't hurt, but I think you made a mistake not filing the complaint. It seems fair to say that that lunatic will do something like that again to someone else. And it could be worse for the next victim. And that nut in the pickup may well get arrested. By filing a complaint against him fro a prior incident, the police are quickly able to ascertain that the guy is prone to violent behavior. Most importantly, any claims of self defense on his part is nullified by your report of his prior belligerant actions.

Don't believe that you can't make a difference.

P.S. Don't think that not getting his plate number will make the determinative difference. I take it you saw his face, which is the most important factor. Just getting the plate number only means you can identify the car, and the police can track down the registered owner. The owner only needs to say he wasn't driving his car that day and assert the 5th. Then you have no case. It's more important that you be able to ID the driver by either pointing the driver out to the police or in a line up.

I've got to change my license plate. I'm nearly 50 years old and many people associate this car with a much younger guy. Nevertheless, the license plate reads "COCAWOK" which is what my daughter called chocolate milk when she was learning to talk. It reminds me of her sense of humor and how she could say "chocolate" and "milk" but teased me by refusing to say the two words together preferring to say "COCAWOK".

Some people think the plate means "Cock of the Walk". The car was keyed down the side before I had 700 milies on it. I just moved here a couple of years ago and have no enemies here.

Come to think of it, I had none in Penna either.
