    raced 350Z last night

The Z was driven by BriGuyMax (member here) and I drove my WRX. We went to an industrial park where there were no cars. Generally I'm not an advocate at racing like this, but we weren't doing an all night race-a-thon.

    Him 350Z: intake
Me WRX: Catless exhaust, ecu reflash (automatic trans)
    the race: (0-100) about a 1/4 mile.

Race 1: Had someone flag us so no one got the jump. One two three count, and we're off! I took off like a bat outta hell and pulled about 1 carlength on him. I held that lead until about a 1/8th of a mile, then he started gaining. I'd say around 1000 feet, he pulled past me, and had about a car on me at the end when we shut down.

    Race 2: Same result.

I thought I did pretty well, as he was a very good driver. He liked the way my car took off at the start. We tried to video the runs, but the camera didn't cooperate. The only vid the guy got was a GTO doing a burnout.

We should be around the same power wise. Ive raced a Z and it was at my door from a 40-90 roll.

What temp was it there? I have plenty of cold air here in Washington State and the butt dyno can definatley notice 40 degree air vs 80.

Bummer! Get a new turbo When i move to Florida, the butt dyno will definately feel the effects of heat soak mediocre(ness).

2 reasons i shut down on the Z at 90:

    1. Anything over 100 is testosterone filled stupidity.
    2. Even a Stage 2 WRX isnt all that great up top. Its leagues beyond stock on top end but its still not better than the Z.

His sig says 13.6 i believe so id say your around a 13.7~8. You need to get to the track and update that 13.9

yeah, my 13.9 was with a poor launch. He even said he thought I'd have a 13.6-13.7 1/4mile time.

I sort of agree. The 5 speed would of gotten a bigger lead off the line.

Also another speed advantage is the ability to shift at redline where as the auto will do it about 400 rpm before (around 6800). Not sure how much a difference that would be but it would only be 2 gears (1st and second). Im sure WRX had it in 3 and that will go to redline.

Also you could shift the Auto like a stick but you better be good at it!

The fact that you have a 4 speed auto hurt you bigtime. The gears are LONG..... I think a 5speed would definitely have put on a better fight.... But this is all armchair racing to be honest...

    Good run

    Hey Geoff....great runs!!!

That's just about how they turned out...

The guy in the GTO really cracked me up...what a yokel. 300 miles on the thing with a leaky rear tire and he does a smoke show....classy to say the least.

I know you guys think that a Stage II rex should beat a 350z from a roll...but after these runs from a stop...I have to believe that it would have been VERY ugly from a roll for Geoff's rex, and not that much better for a 5-speed. He probably had me by a good 5-10mph in the first 330ft...and for the Z to make up that difference and pull past shows the top end advantage. I'd really like to run a stage II 5-speed from a roll before I add any significant mods to my car. BobbyD...where are you???

Anyway I had a good time Geoff....you'll definitely have to come to the track next time we go...hopefully run a PB

A stage 2 rex traps about the same as you. And pulls low 13's. think it would be a good race. Auto's are geared extremely tall and a 5 spd would have you by 3 cars at the launch.
