    Supra may return 2004

Article from Automobile Mag (August) says that Toyota will bring back the Supra...I already knew that. But the article also said, "The new Supra could share platforms and parts with the next Lexus IS300, also due in 2004".

Does this mean that the next IS300 is going to be a rocket, or does it mean that the Supra will be much less than previous versions.

Also, I have yet to run against an IS300, but I know they are fast...how would we (WRX) fare against it? I know our times are better.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the IS300 is already using the same 6 as the Supra, only without the turbos.

    you're right bedabi...

I did some searching and found this:

215 horsepower and 218 lbft of torque, coming from the Supra-derived 24-valve straight six displacing 2997 c.c., aided with VVT-i continuously variable valve timing. Its virtually the same as GS300 and Crowns power plants too.

My question...why doesn't Toyota do more with the IS if it has so much more potential? Is there something behind this?

I also looked up the new Nissan 350Z, Lexus SC 430, and the Infiniti G35...all very sweet cars!

Maybe they'll vamp up the IS300 now that the G35 is out! Also, Jaguar's new X-Type 3.0, the 330xi, and the 3.0 A4 are gonna start romping on the IS300! I doubt they'll throw a turbo on the IS though, because the point of the car is to compete with Euro Sports sedans, and that means smooth, even power delievery all the time. A turbo would make the car a bit too brutal for this kind of car. Maybe if they bring out an "S" version to compete with the S4/M3/C32/X-Type R it will have twin turbos, but I don't think Toyota has that in the cards. Let's hope it does get some more power, it's a great looking car I think!

Yeah, I saw the article about it in C&D I think, that thing is sick. 0-60 in 3 seconds flat, and it can handle too apparently!

Damn, how much does it cost to put a dyno on the car? Looks expensive.

Dynoing your car isn't that expensive. When I got mine dyno'd, it was $120 for the intial dyno and if I ever want to come back, it's $60 after that.
