    WRX vs. Roush Stage 2

My father in-law and I will probably be taking our cars either to the track or to the street soon to face off. I have an 04 WRX sedan with a Cobb Stage 1 (soon to be Stage 2 + uppipe), and he has a Roush Stage 2 with a Diablo chip.

How would we stack up against each other from a stop? I know it'd be close in the quarter and he'd probably own me from a good roll, but I just want to see what all of you think.

    Mustang stage 2

The Roush Stage 2 Mustang package contains the 260 HP producing SOHC V8 and other core components offered in the Stage 1 package, with stunning cosmetic and suspension upgrades. The 18 inch alloy Roush wheels make an impressive visual statement. The suspension upgrade, with beefy anti roll bars, higher-rate springs, new lower control arms and Billstein shocks, sends a signal that this a vehicle for serious drivers. This dynamic combination allows nearly 1.0 g in lateral acceleration. Available options include the extremely comfortable Roush Sport seating system.

Sounds like it is just a "looks" upgrade. Bleh.

Good point. I never looked at the options as a whole. Although apparently, the side exhaust and CAI help it produce 289hp. With a good launch, it looks like i should whoop on him.

The chip, exhaust and CAI will help a little bit, just like on a normal Mustang GT. The rest of the stuff just adds weight to his car (in terms of straightline performance). 18" wheels will have more rotational mass, and a stiffer/shorter sidewall (less flex, so harder to launch) for example...

I'd expect your father in law to be stuck in the 14's somewhere.

And just to throw him off his game and secure your victory, right before you race, remind him that whether you win or lose, you're still going to f*** his daughter when you get home tonight.

I actually raced a Rousch Stage 2 from a stop when my car was stock.

I beat him up till about 80 and he blew by me. 170 whp WRX versus probably somewhere around 220 (guessing) Rousch....AWD is all the WRX has on the mustang....

    My guess is:
    From a stop- Wrx (AWD)
    From a roll- Roush

It will probably be very close

don't be too confident as the decision of the race will be decided by how you launch your car. You have good chance to win with <1.8 60' time.
