There's been tons of research done on this Downunder
A FWD also has less drivetrain loss than RWD, because the wheels are closer to the engine.
    This is not so.
Several tuning places have dynoed WRX between 160-170 WHP.
    That's 160/227 ~ 170/227 which translate to 70%~75% Wheel power.

Good run btw, I'm hoping to find a race with one soon

Where is Chantilly Virginia? I am in richmond, and my friend with the S4 is always ready for a good race.

wrx's should have about %25-30 drivetrain loss in stock form, not %40+.

    e46 M3 (new toy)
02 wrx w/257 swap (now sold)
    IS 300 5spd w/ NAV (hers)

Your also not taking into account that the S4 was probably dyno'd on a 4-wheel dyno. Shiv @ Vishnu converts the WRX to 2 wheel drive to dyno it. Therefore, the HP # that Vishnu gives actually get lowered quite a bit when the car is put back to AWD.

BTW, Last I talked to Shiv, he is waiting for his 4 wheel dyno to be shipped in from Australia.
2002 Midnight Black WRX - EJ22 w/ VF30 and all the other stuff to go with it...

Few tuners in East have 4 wheel dynos (TurboXS, Pruven...)
HP values from them weren't much different (enough to disregard 4wd to 2wd converted dyno.)
It's been discussed that some dynos read somewhat higher than others so there is no one 'perfect' dyno.

Anyway, 34% driveline loss seems a bit too much to me, IMO.

Does the S4 (wagon) have any engine options that arent 2.7T...I played with one yesterday...i dont know if he didnt know how to shift the thing or what but he got owned. I heard they were fast... he was this really fat computer guy looking dude. Young but way to many nights with the domino's supreme and the Pr0n. any way he almost killed himself chasing me down after i turned off the street he was on. at any rate, he was bumping the throttle and jacking around and i wasnt biting...then i just stepped on it after a downshift to 3 from 4, i think he thought i was playing but i just stayed in it...he was auto dimming mirror fodder. then he caught me at the next light and was all about the middle finger and stuff. oh well, he would have probably got me but he let his guard down. My beater (blue 02 wagon)is stock pretty much so he may have just been "asleep" at the wheel.

The A4 Avant (wagon) comes in three varieties; the 1.8t turbocharged four cylinder, the 2.8 normally aspirated 6 cylinder, and the 2.7t Twin Turbocharged 6 cylinder (the S4 Avant). The new style A4 avant also comes with a 3.0 option instead of a 2.8.

i thought it was an S4 but i guess not if you said the wagon has a bi-turbo 6(I still maintain that if it was in fact a S4 he had no clue what he was doing). maybe it was the little engine on the "A4"...either way, nice car but mean driver. I suppose he just had a road rage thing going on. I tried to give the guy props for having a wagon (wagon's are cool, the wagon is good) but he just gave me some middle finger love. Oh well. My buddy has a 3.0 A4 (2002) and its that really nice blue color. I like.
