Of course he could have been telling his son "hey want to see how fast a wrx is?" And then proceeded to bait you into showing his son since his son wouldn't shut up about the car .

son (looking out window nonchalantly): "What's for dinner, dad?"
dad: Do you want to eat burger king or mom's cooking"
    son: burger king!
    (both laugh)
suddenly some weird car speeds by.
son sees a maniacal grin on the driver's face.
dad pulls behind this car for fear of their lives.

That's real cute. I'll make sure I race all the time when I have a kid. There's no moral issues endangering his life.

The WRX just briefly got into 3rd, which would be in the 60-70 mph region. The Saab was well behind, probably doing 50 mph (?). Unless we know the speed limit, who is to say that there was anything wreckless going on besides some enthusiastic acceleration? A FWD Saab and an AWD WRX aren't exactly going to do wheelstands or fishtail out of control under full throttle...

90 mph racing through city streets in traffic, etc... with a kid in the car: Bad decision and bad parent.

Quick burst of acceleration up to the speed limit with a kid in the car: Fun for kid and parent, no harm done.

    Just my take on it.
